This may be a dumb question, but why DFA JJ? I thought he could be sent down.

Think he could be decent out of the bullpen after watching yesterday. Gotta think someone will claim him quickly.

That has to be wrong. There was an open spot on the 40 man roster. Jair was most likely optioned.

I thought that too, but looks like he couldn't.

If he was DFA, it could be similar to what they did with Bergesen last year. Trying to get someone to bite on taking his salary.

I find DFA'ing Jurrjens a bit mystifying, especially considering the Orioles obvious need for a #5 starter and solid backup relievers. Jurrjens appeared to fill both those needs.

I assume that because the Orioles removed Jurrjens from the 40 man roster when they signed Thames, that he couldn't just be optioned to Norfolk. Personally, I think its a strange move. Something else must be going on.

    Jurrjens stays in organization.

Jurrjens still in organization. DFA off 25 man. Will be in Norfolk. Yeah, confusing. Not your typical DFA situation #Orioles

Which I think means he was not DFA, just optioned which makes sense.

I was gonna say. At the very least I'd think Jurrjens would be an effective reliever.
