The Cubs are 19-13 over their last 32 games.

They made a pain in the ass of themselves by sweeping the Orioles last week, and they are making pains in the asses of themselves now against another contender (the Cardinals.)

Last night, they gave Pat Neshek his worst beating of the season, (4 runs on 4 hits in only 2/3 of an inning) in a 7-2 win.

Today, Felix Doubront pitched 7 innings of 1-run ball in a 5-1 win in the first game of a day-night doubleheader.

I am interested in how the Cubs project for next year because I think many folks could have done at least as well in turning around this team as Theo Epstein has. It is not difficult to spend big sums of $ for a large market investing in the international market and working the draft; and to move most veterans for prospects. Theo has done well with JakeA, received a nice haul for Samardy and Hammel, but this is taking a while IMO. Maybe that team competes quickly from here and I am missing the boat when Theo deserves some praise, but these three years have not been particularly pretty IMO and not worthy of much distinction before the last month.

The fact that he has completely turned around this organization in 3 years is amazing. He took this team to the #1, by a large margin, farm in baseball. He took what was, by far, the smallest front office and drastically expanded it more than doubling the scouts etc. He also gave them technology. Before Theo arrived Cub Scouts had to document pitches on pen and paper because no one even took video. They also built a baseball complex in the Dominican and now have finally started a 550M renovation on Wrigley and surrounding properties. He's taken a team that was 30 years behind every other team and modernized them in 3 years. That's incredibly impressive.

Interesting article about the historical aspect of Chicago Cubs managers, beginning with Hall-of-Fame player-manager Frank Chance in 1905.

The Fall Guys

Rick Renteria is the latest Cubs manager to be tilting at the Wrigley Field windmills.

(By Steve Wulf)

One and done for Rick Renteria.

Over the next 5 years, Joe Maddon will try to do what no Cubs manager has done since 1945 ...... win the National League Pennant, and advance to the World Series.

And what no Cubs team has done in a 106 years, win one.
