.

Off to another hot start.

The Georgians swept the Nationals into first place this past weekend, and beat the Phillies yesterday to extend their winning streak to 4 games.

They have won 5 out of 6 games against the Nats so far this season.

They barely avoided a sweep at the hands of the Mets at Turner Field last week, their only blip so far in this young season.

Braves starter Alex Wood threw 8 innings of 1-run ball, allowing only an RBI-single in the 4th inning.

Unfortunately for Wood, it was the only run of the game for either team.

In fact, it is the second consecutive game in which Wood has throw 8 innings of 1-run ball AND LOST. :eektf:

0 walks and 11 strikeouts.

And Wood's W.H.I.P. on the season is 0.971 in 5 starts (35 innings pitched), to go along with his 1.54 E.R.A.

His snake-bitten W-L record is 2-3.

ALEX WOOD O (vs. MARLINS, 4/22)

IP:. 8

H:o 4 (3 Singles)

R:O 1

BB: 0

SO: 11

Pitches: 101 (75 Strikes, 26 Balls)

2014 ERA: 1.54

The 4 pitchers in the game ...... Jose Fernandez, Alex Wood, Steve Cishek and David Carpenter struck out 28 and issued zero walks, for the most combined strikeouts without a base on balls by two teams in a single game since 1900, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

(SEPTEMBER 17th)

The slumping Braves were eliminated from the division title by the Nationals last night, and have almost no chance at making the postseason, at all.

They are under .500 for the first time since losing to the Brewers on Opening Day back in March, at 75-76.
