12th Round - Nigel Nootbaar - RHP - USC

Recommended Posts

Immediately one of the best names in the farm system, if he signs. He's a 6'1", 185 pound junior.

Nootbaar made just nine appearance for the Trojans this year, two of which were starts. He pitched to a 2.81 ERA in 16 innings and struck out 14. However, he also allowed 18 walks.

Here's a scouting report from last Summer from Don Olsen on Nootbaar:

"Nigel has a compact lean athletic build. A little effort to the delivery, slightly unorthodox with a little whip arm action. There was some deception in the delivery and hides it well, gives hop on the arsenal. Fastball is 92-94 mph with some late movement, has some tail on it. The slider shows more vertical tilt with late bite 82-84 mph, overall above average movement that flashed plus. Saw a different type break of 12/6 variety that had more depth in 78-80 range, path had a bit different action, weakening slider or curveball."

Well with all the college players being taken Delmarva should be good again next year. Maybe that's the plan here. Trying to get rid of the crappy crop at Frederick right now and make the top 4 teams good? Just a theory.

I hope they are not drafting with the ultimate goal of winning minor league titles.
