Gausman's most important start as an Oriole

Hasn't pitched in a week, shuttled back and forth to Norfolk,in a showdown on national TV, full house, Yankees badly wanting to win. Those are some facts about Gausman and his start tonight on ESPN. Is he up to the task? No, its not a playoff game, and yes, the Orioles will remain in first place going into the break no matter what happens, but the kid needs to step up to gain some status as an Oriole starter for the future. I have been as big a supporter of Gausman as anyone on this board, and I'm hopeful he brings his "A" game tonight and that the Orioles can get untracked offensively. The team hasn't hit well in this series and some of the AB's show impatience again, but all eyes will be on the kid. Let's see if he's any good tonight. No pressure though.

Why do we need threads like these all the time? This is no more important than any other game. Why the constant this is the most important game posts. This is the most important series. This is the most important stretch of games? It is tiresome.

I am thinking the O's bats will break out tonight on the young pitcher and the Yankees are going to get embarrassed on ESPN. Hope so. Gausman just needs to do what he usually does,we should be able to get him 5 runs.

This start is no more important for Gausman than any other. What he does tonight is not going to change the O's plans for him the second half, whatever they are. Too bad it's ESP, and too bad he's been jerked around so he's not on regular rest.

Agree. With every member of the "calvary" every start was "important".
This gets old or has gotten so old. Sometimes you pitch well and lose, some times you pitch lousy and you win. It's the body of work.

This IS the most important start of the season for Gausman ...... until his next start.

And, this IS the most important game of the season for the Orioles ...... until their next game.

I like how you spin the drama, Roy. Tonight's game is indeed the most important of the season ..... until the next game.

If it is a big game for Gausman, in particular, that is a shame. Gausman's small sample size of pitching has him with a better ERA than our starting five, a WHIP better than three of the five (and one one-hundredth behind Chen), etc. Gausman should already be in our rotation on merit and probably should have been in the OD rotation (as advocated here) and pitching in Bmore all season.

I think Gausman will be just fine.

Taking out the Texas series, the Orioles have scored 5 runs or more 3 times in the last 15 home games. 2 times in a 9 inning game. And 0 times before the start of the 9th inning. They have been consistently awful at home offensively. Need to turn it around starting tonight.

So he's probably going to have to be very good tonight for the team to win. It's been like that all year at home.

Every pitcher's most start is his next one. The only way you can approach this game and succeed is one pitch at a time.

Didn't Kevin pitch a FOX game earlier this year? I can't remember.
