Orioles Will Not Host 2016 All-Star game (Nats get 2018)

The Orioles! That would be fitting, in that the 2016 campaign will mark the 25th anniversary season of Camden Yards, the Orioles' gem of a ballpark. So there's the hook, if you will. The O's and Camden previously hosted the All-Star Game back in 1993.

Are they ever going to officially announce this? I feel like we've been speculating that Baltimore will get the 2016 game for 2-3 years. Don't they normally announce who will host like 5 years in advance? Maybe I'm wrong.

Any chance the MASN dispute has slowed the award? Didn't Selig imply that this summer?

Any chance Cito could be an honorary captain for the AL? Would love for him to be introduced to the home crowd.

Maybe Mike Mussina can show up and start warming up in the bullpen solely to show up his manager.

I hope they have the lottery again. I won the chance to purchase All-Star tickets (2) twice by submitting my name and my brothers name. Unbelievable!

He didn't put Mussina in the game. Mike took it upon himself to warm up in the 9th and the fans got a chant going. I still remember seeing Cito smirking in the dugout.

Cito later said he was saving Mussina in case the game went extra innings.

Gaston was the manager for two American League All-Star teams since he was the manager of the championship American League franchise in 1992 and 1993. He was criticized for selecting six Blue Jays to the 1993 roster, but was unapologetic, stating all six were World Champions and two were future Hall of Famers.

In the 1993 All-Star Game held at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, he was criticized for not getting Orioles pitcher Mike Mussina into the game. Mussina got up in the ninth inning to warm up in the bullpen.[10] Mussina later claimed that he was simply doing a between-start workout, but some interpreted it was an attempt to force Gaston to put him into the game. As angry fans jeered in dismay, incredulous that Gaston would not use the popular local player and believing Mussina had been sent to warm up for no reason, Gaston instead allowed Blue Jays pitcher Duane Ward to close out the victory for the American League. Baltimore fans did not like this perceived snub, and T-shirts were sold outside of Camden Yards that season bearing the phrase, "Will Rogers never met Cito Gaston," referencing the famous line by Will Rogers, "I never met a man yet that I didn't like."

He was voted onto the ['93] All-Star team, however he did not pitch in the game. There was a controversial incident toward the end of the game when Mussina chose to warm up in the bullpen, despite the fact AL manager Cito Gaston had told him that he would not enter the game.[6] Orioles fans believed Mussina was warming up in preparation to come in and pitch the ninth inning, and when Gaston put Duane Ward in to pitch the ninth inning, the fans at Camden Yards spent the rest of the game chanting "We Want Mike" and booing Gaston very loudly, as the popular slogan "Cito Sucks" was born in Baltimore. The slogan could be seen on t-shirts or heard even years later in Baltimore any time the visiting Blue Jays came to town. Gaston was never treated well by Baltimore fans for the rest of his managerial career and he was subject to death threats for not pitching Mussina in the game.[7] Many believe Mussina threw on his own as a way of publicly showing up Gaston because he was angry at not pitching in the game. However, Mussina said he was just getting his work in, as he was scheduled to throw that day, and it was apparent Gaston did require his services.[6] Mussina returned from the DL in August against the Texas Rangers, only to have the Orioles shut him down three weeks later in mid-September due to lower back pain.
