Jackie Robinson trade

Today in the Sun sports, there was an interesting blurb in the This Week in Baltimore Sports History section.

There was a quote from the O's GM in December 1955 saying we were interested in trading for Jackie Robinson, but no deal could happen because the Dodgers couldn't get waivers on him.

1955 was the next to last year of Jackie's career, and he dipped to 2.6 rWAR in his age 36 season, playing mostly 3b.

1956 his final year he also mostly played 3b and finished strong with 4.5 WAR.

I had never heard this before and would be glad to hear anyone who recalls anything more around this.
