When I was a little kid, the Mets and the Yankees used to have "Bat Day" at Shea Stadium and Yankee Stadium, respectively.

I don't know if they still have them, but if they do, it would seem odd ...... handing out free, full-sized baseball bats to 25,000 - plus rabid baseball fans in today's day and age.

The gates opened at 4:30 for a 7 pm game which is crazy. At 4:30 the line went from the CF gate almost back down the street to the Metro. I overheard someone say they arrived at 4:30 and it took him 25 minutes to get through the gate. Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia Werth lasted about an hour after the gates opened. It turns out that was the highlight of the evening for Nats fans as their bullpen collapsed late in the game.
