O'Day was a waiver claim.

Pearce was bought from NYY.

DeAza was Blackmar and Chalas.

Thanks for the refinements on O'Day and de Aza. I do believe that Pearce was most recently obtained through waivers, though, from the Yankees. You are correct that was purchased from the Yankees first, but Houston got him off waivers from us, then the Yankees bought him from the Astros before we selected him off waivers from New York. Man, he's well traveled.

He was actually most recently signed as a FA after being released by the Orioles and refusing a claim by the Blue Jays.

I was thinking about this the other day.

To break it down a little further, 5 of the 11 players acquired in a trade were acquired during the season (Hunter, Davis, Norris, Clevenger and De Aza). Pearce should also probably be considered a mid-season acquisition since he originally came over from the Yankees in June 2012 in a cash transaction. He most recently re-signed with the O’s as a free agent last April of 2014. Paredes was an in-season waiver claim. That is 7 of the players on the 40-man roster (41-man counting Davis) who were acquired during a season. That’s about 17%. Of those seven players, five of them have almost a guaranteed spot on the 25-man roster to start the season assuming health (Hunter, Norris, De Aza, Pearce, and Davis after the first game). That’s 20% of the active roster that was acquired during a season rather than during an offseason. I point that out because Duquette is always talking about how the organization makes moves all season long. The fact that a good chunk of the active roster was acquired at a time other than the offseason supports Duquette’s talking point.

Nice work, MacPhail certainly put a lot of the pieces in place when you look at it.

Fortunately for Duquette, MacPhail gave him a loaded hand.

I do not understand why there needs to be a constant McPhail vs. DD thing around here (if that is not the purpose of your post, I apologize). McPhail did a good job of bringing in a good amount of talent to stock the team, no doubt. Duquette built nearly the entire rotation, though, outside of Tillman (admittedly the best of the bunch). Pitching has been instrumental to us making the playoffs and finally winning the division last year. Chen - Gonzo - Norris - Gausman (and Ubaldo) were all acquired by DD.
