  1. 1. Who would you root for in a Duke-Kentcky final

    • Duke

    • I'd rather play canasta than watch that game

From an article about Knetucky's quest to go undefeated:

Scenarios have narrowed but still abound, with the most harrowing probably a plausible final against Duke. "It would be bad for the fan base to lose now to West Virginia or Notre Dame or whoever, but to get the one game, 39-0, and then you lose, that?s a killer," Bird said. "Lose to Duke, after Laettner, you might have bridge-jumpers. You can't paint a worse scenario.

"But the flip side of it for the UK fan base, what if it's 40-0 and it came at Duke's expense? They you have the ultimate victory of all time."

Who would you root for in that scenario?

I'm really not sure. If I root for Duke, it'd be the first time I've rooted for them against anyone besides Carolina in a long, long time.

I wrote a long spiel in this thread yesterday, but then didn't post it because it was rambling nonsense. Basically, though, I was saying how all the right candidates are lining up for Kentucky. Notre Dame - Wisconsin - Duke or Gonzaga - is a righteous path. If Kentucky stays undefeated through that, they will have earned their place in history. And on one hand, I am rooting for Notre Dame and will root for Wisconsin if Kentucky survives Notre Dame. On the other hand, Kentucky's quest for an undefeated season while facing the gauntlet of all the right opponents is what might make the 2015 Tourney the most memorable since Duke's early '90's runs (because of UNLV national semi-final in '91 and the Kentucky regional final in '92).

Duke is the only team with the roster that could compete in, for example, a best-of-seven against Kentucky. But Gonzaga, due to their weaker schedule, is the most difficult to assess amongst the worthy opponents. Like Wisconsin over Arizona, a Gonzaga win over Duke would cement them as a compelling opponent for Kentucky. Hopefully, for the sake of the enormity of it all, the Duke/Gonzaga winner makes it to the final (if Kentucky survives; Notre Dame looks AWESOME!!) .

Notre Dame up 6 with 6 minutes left.

If Kentucky wins the National Championship, I'll probably win a nice chunk of money in my work bracket. I'm currently tied for 1st with a guy who has Wisconsin winning it all. I still want Kentucky to lose this game. :laughlol:

So many good story lines if UK makes it to the final. 1) exercising the 92 demons against Duke. 2) Gonzaga has a UK transfer. 3) Louisville and Pitino.

This has been one of the most compelling tournaments that I've seen in a long time.

Is there a less likable sports figure than John Calipari? His team beats a great ND team by 2 points and the first words out of his mouth in the post game interview are "we didn't play well". What a jerk.

I don't know, maybe Aaron Hernandez, Greg Hardy, Ray Rice, Rae Caruth, Jayson Williams, Chad Curtis, Alvin Robertson, Joe Girardi. Calipari had many words of praise for ND.

BTW, this was one of the best tournament games in a long time.

I'll give you Greg Hardy and I'll throw in Adrian Peterson. But the other guys are no longer in sports besides Girardi. I hate Girardi but he's not as bad as Calipari IMO.

I'm really surprised ND played as well as they did against the team that shall not be named coached by the guy who is as slimy as a used car salesman. It would have been an upset for the ages. They played their hearts out though. Quite the effort.

Canasta looks good about now.

    • What a great example of pedantic! Please tell us you meant to do that. I honestly can’t tell these days.
    • Well it certainly doesn't look like he'll be winning Rookie of Year award. And if we send him down for like the tiniest amount of time, we get him for another year, right? I think if this poor hitting continues it's financial mismanagement not to send him back down. Grayson got sent down and came back way better.
    • He certainly isn't a bust but I wasn't happy with the pick at the time and I don't love using the second overall pick for that type of player profile. Westburg signed for slot so he's irrelevant but Mayo was a great use of the money saved.
    • Think Heston will be the next call up. Mayo’s K/BB ratio is poor and I think they’ll want to see that even out. Stowers and Norby have seen their numbers slip a bit.  It will likely take an injury to an outfielder or first baseman, but I think we see HK next.
    • I have to laugh at some of my pre-draft thoughts as well as others. I will say on behalf of myself and some others is that what we did not understand then was what the Orioles brain trust knew to be their model, and what they best developed. What traits they were looking for is an important thing to know, in hindsight anyway. And really, the Jackson Holliday leap in development was not something most of us heard anything about until about a month before the draft. I saw him the previous summer and I cannot say he was all that impressive, but it was only one look. His physicality took a big jump after that.  I will also add that we’re never going to know what would have happened if they drafted Austin Martin, Jones, Lawler, Lacy, etc. Their development could well have been different as O’s. The funny part of this board, in general, is the absolute certainty some have in their opinions and how eager they are to trash Elias and staff. There is plenty of humility to go around, now that things have played out. It’s fun to finally have a truly great front office and ownership group, and a stacked stable of horses.
