2015 New York Mets

I've been touting the Mets and their young, talented starting pitchers since 2013.

It's a good thing that they signed Bartolo Colon to a TWO-YEAR CONTRACT before the start of the 2014 season because last year, Matt Harvey missed the entire season while continuing to recover from Tommy John Surgery ...... and now this year, Zack Wheeler will miss all of this season AND part of next season due to Tommy John Surgery.

JULY, 2013:

Between Wheeler, Harvey, Niese, and Gee, the Mets may have a solid young nucleus of starting pitchers in 2015 and beyond (Harvey may or may not be back next year, which is why I say 2015 and beyond.)

Harvey is already a young phenom, Wheeler is a highly touted rookie, and the 27 year-old Gee has pitched very well in 8 of his last 10 starts.

With Harvey out until either late this season or the start of next season, the Metsies may still be a year away from really coming together, but I'm still pretty optimistic in terms of their rotation in the long-term.

Zack Wheeler, Matt Harvey, Jonathon Niese, and Dillon Gee.

And now they have 24 year-old Jenrry Mejia, who is off to a solid start (2-0 with a 2.81 E.R.A.) to start the 2014 season.

We'll see what happens.

Not to mention Noah Syndergaard, Rafael Montero, and Steven Matz.

One sportswriter agrees with me.

I don't know if they will necessarily win their division this season, but they look good overall for the foreseen future.

WASHINGTON NATIONALS

Yunel Escobar - 3B

6 shutout innings today.

Harvey has had 37 starts so far in his major league career.

In 20 of those 37 starts (54%), he has given up 1 earned run or less.

That is ........ scary.

Colon beat the Braves today, going 7 innings, and giving up 3 runs.

He's 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA in 2 starts so far this season.

As I stated late last year:

SEPTEMBER, 2014:

The 41 year-old has done a really good job this season in holding the fort while the Mets continue to groom their talented young starters (Zack Wheeler, Jacob deGom, Jonathon Niese, Dillon Gee), as well as bridge the gap until Matt Harvey comes back next season.

http://forum.orioleshangout.com/forums/showthread.php/139987-2014-New-York-Mets/page2?highlight=2014+Mets

Matt Harvey went down in August of 2013, needing Tommy John surgery.

Colon was there to hold down the fort in 2014.

Zack Wheeler went down in March of 2015, needing Tommy John surgery.

Colon is here to hold down the fort in 2015.

Good signing by Alderson.

7 innings of 1-run ball for Bartolo Colon tonight.

He's 3-0 with a 2.25 ERA and an 0.800 WHIP after 3 starts.

The Mets are 8-3 overall.

At 10-3, the Mets are off to their 2nd best start in franchise history (1962-Present.)

The 1986 Mets started the season at 13-3.

The Mets have won 10 consecutive games for the first time since 2008.

11 wins in a row now, which ties a franchise record. It is the fifth time that they have done it. The most recent time was in 1990.

Also, this was their first 10-0 homestand in the history of their franchise (1962 - Present.)

I don't think that the Mets are as good as their 13-3 record would indicate.

I do think that the Mets are good though, as I have been asserting that they would be since 2013 ...... mostly due to their talented, young starting pitching, which has been there and developing for the past 4-5 years.
