The 2015 Buck Showalter Is a Genius Thread

If we are going to have to yawn through a Roch Kubatko is funny thread all season - how about a Buck Showalter is a genius thread? Mods?

Bats De Aza in leadoff spot - Result - thirty pitches seen, two run bomb

Inserts Flash Flaherty as starting SS - Result - blocks second on steal attempt to garner out, hits solo jack

Inserts Travis Snider in lineup - Result - 3 hits, outfield assist at home, 2 RBI, diving catch in right (well he didn't have too much choice but whatever)

Showalter is 5-0 on opening day with the Orioles.

"Thank God you didn't tell me before the game," he said, "or we would have gotten beat by 10-0."

Of course Buck's "genius" is shared by a team of baseball guys and gals feeding him information but he manages all that input well.

And how could I forget that brilliant challenge at home plate - Steve Pearce (Ribeye for an RBI) - genius! :hearts:

He hit third last night too against Karns.

Though I agree with you, and am more impressed by Buck everyday. In no potential lineups in my mind, did I have Snider hitting 3.

He's a genius! :clap3:

He got Rule 5 rookie Jason Garcia's feet wet with a quick inning tonight.

And he won another challenge tonight on the DP call at first!

Buck believes in ALWAYS keeping a backup SS available. If Cabrera enters the game and comes out for CJ, then if something happened to Flaherty we would have to do something crazy like put Manny at SS, Davis to 3B, Snider at 1B, Delmon in RF.

I also thought Buck should have brought Delmon in to bat for Flaherty but I am guessing Buck rejected this for the same reason.

Ahem! What I have been saying.....

I was actually hoping that Buck would PH Cabrera for Schoop against a tough RHP. Good point about Lavarnway at 1st. I was thinking the same thing there as well. He could have used Cabrera in either spot as far as I'm concerned. As far as keeping a SS on the bench, it may or may not be true of Buck. However, in my book, when it's late and you're losing, you pull out all stops. You don't plan for the emergency that has a 1/100th chance of happening when you are about to lose.

or not....:scratchchinhmm: but folly to criticize with this SSS.....or not
