Wei-Yin Chen Today 2015

Just listening to JP and he mentioned Chen hadn't been over 90 mph this year with his FB and right after that he throws back to back at 91. It's mildly concerning if he can't locate as well because his margin for error is less than when he's throwing 94-95 mph.

The same goes for the slider with which he struck out Rodriguez and the CB which he served up to Young. The slider had much tighter spin and was down as opposed to the CB which was a middle of the plate spinner.

So, he gave up another HR to Teixeira on the same pitch he had struck him out on earlier. Other than that he mixed pitches well and located the FB when he needed. He did get up to 92mph on one FB and looking at his numbers for April it's typical of him to increase velocity after the first month.

He was better tonight. Hindsight being 20/20 I let him start the seventh but that's baseball, you don't know Hunter will allow the first two on. Just bounce back tomorrow and even up the series. One game at a time.

Great job by Chen. He was very pitch efficient. That was a vintage Chen outing.

Definitely. They showed after the game that he threw over 70% fastballs tonight, which is well over his season average of 59%. That's what makes Chen effective. Confidence in and command of the fastball.

Chen was magnificent. Too bad he couldn't have been credited with the win. But as most of us know, a "win" by a pitcher isn't always a very accurate measure of his ability.
