Orioles compared to other AL East teams

Came up with an idea for a thread to compare how our team stacks up with our division opponents in the most important 'stats' possible, earned runs allowed vs. runs scored.

Idea is to update this every week or two to see how things are going.

As of 4/16/15

Runs scored

1. Boston - 56

2. Toronto - 53

3. Baltimore - 47

4. Yankees - 45

5. Rays - 40

ERA

1. Yankees - 4.04

2. Rays - 4.26

3. Toronto - 4.33

4. Baltimore - 4.61

5. Boston - 4.75

Still early but hopefully this shows that our bats might be in for a good weekend coming up against the Bosox?

How about average runs per game scored vs average runs allowed per game?

Yes, this. Or another important stat to consider when comparing your team with rest of your division: Games won vs. Games lost, then you could compare the difference between the two totals for every team and assign like a half a point for every game difference for wins and losses and them you could... never mind :D

Updated through games on 4/26/15:

Note: All teams have played 19 games. You may think that I may have chosen today to bump this thread to skew the numbers a bit in our favor. You're not exactly wrong. But that doesn't mean the numbers are any less true! Stats don't lie.......it's the statisticians you need to watch out for.

Runs Scored

Baltimore - 104

Toronto - 100

New York - 99

Boston- 95

Tampa Bay - 81

Runs Allowed

Tampa Bay - 76

New York - 78

Toronto - 96

Baltimore - 102

Boston - 102

Team ERA

New York - 3.49

Tampa Bay - 3.80

Toronto - 4.80

Boston - 5.00

Baltimore - 5.04

Thanks for that.

I think that it's pretty clear that the biggest reason(s) why we are a mediocre 9-10 overall is because our pitching and defense have not been up to par.

The good news is that when they do start to come around, it's likely that we'll be going something like 11-8, 12-7, or 13-6 over 19-game stretches, instead of the 9-10 stretch that we just completed.

And yes, over the course of the marathon baseball season, I do expect them (the Orioles' pitching and defense) to come around.

Except for the Rays we haven't seen great pitching yet. We will this week with Sale and company. Rays Chris Archer is Friday night.Hasnt given up an earned run yet.

Archer has an ERA, he's given up an earned run. In fact, he's given up 3 of them, and all to the O's.
