Jason Garcia coming in right now in the O's-Sox game for some mop-up long relief duty. Do you see him as a starter long term?

Hate that I am echoing something Dave Johnson said on Wall To Wall Baseball recently, but wasn't Garcia throwing 96-98 in spring training? It seems like he has been around 93-94 for the most part during the regular season. Was the gun fast in Sarasota, or has he just not had the same velocity since being injured in spring training? Or is it TTTP stuff and other tweaks that have caused the drop? (But I thought the Orioles raved about his delivery, so not sure why even they would try to change him.)

I see a nice arm in Garcia, but I don't see anything special that would make me keep a roster spot for him if he's not effective.

If this team is going to be a contender, I'm not sure they can afford the luxury of keeping a Rule V pitcher that's going to get into one of every 10 games.

Mop up game happen. Who would you rather have in that role, a young prospect that you got for nothing from an opposition system or a AAAA guy from your own system. Mop up games don't matter and it really isn't going to matter who gets to pitch in them. I don't see that we really have anybody knocking on the door for his roster spot.

If the Orioles did not consider themselves contenders, then I could see this experiment running a bit longer. But, since they do, it's probably time to cut bait.

Why is it time to cut bait? And why would they not consider themselves contenders at this point?

If Buck doesn't trust him to hold a five run lead then I don't see how they can keep him.

Give him a few more. It's not like the 'pen is burned out right now.

The starters in this series went 3.2, 5.1, 5.0, 4.1 innings. I think another reliable arm in the pen would be a good idea. An even better idea would be two arms, with options, that they can switch back and forth.

What has he got that Mike Wright, Oliver Drake, Branden Kline, Parker Bridwell, and Mychal Givens don't have? Unless he's throwing 96-100, the answer is nothing. Plus those guys have the experience he doesn't have.

I agree. Seems like he has lost whatever he had early in camp that made him look so promising. I don't think he's worth the 25 man spot at this point.

Keep in mind he was hurt in the spring. Also it's possible that he's not dialing it up to keep his control in check.

What I see is a guy that can hit the corners while throwing low to mid 90s with movement. That's not bad.

That's true. Maybe we could give him a dl stint to see if that helps to bring back what we were seeing.
