2015 32nd (973) - Cody Morris - RHP - Reservoir HS (MD)

Recommended Posts

We have our first local selection! The Orioles dip into their backyard to select Cody Morris, a 6'4", 200 pound prep righty from Reservoir HS.He is committed to the University of South Carolina, so I may be seeing him in action next Spring if the Orioles don't sign him.

Update: Yep, looks like he's headed to school: http://southcarolina.247sports.com/Bolt/Morris-says-hes-Carolina-bound-37682225

He also recently underwent Tommy John surgery so I probably won't be seeing him pitch next Spring: http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/highschools/reservoir-all-met-pitcher-cody-morris-to-undergo-tommy-john-surgery/2015/05/19/58a08118-fe3d-11e4-805c-c3f407e5a9e9_story.html

The TJ surgery could make him go pro. I have to imagine it is better to rehab TJ with professional trainers then in class.

From the article above: Morris plans to take a redshirt year at South Carolina and rehab there, though if he gets selected in the Major League Baseball draft, which begins June 8, he could sign a professional contract and rehab within that organization. Morris had been projected as a possible pick in the first five rounds of the draft.

"Well, you know, we’ll see what happens," Morris said. "This injury happens to a lot of people. . . . Especially for a power arm, I don’t think it’s that crazy for a team to take a chance, but obviously, it’ll discount my price and stuff, so we’ll see what happens. But at this point, I’m just preparing for South Carolina and anything that comes with it will be considered."

Perhaps he could take some of those savings and then rehabbed.

If we save money on Hughes, I'd much rather see it go to Morris or Pries instead of adding to Stewart's bonus.
