I would love a scouting report (RZNJ - you watch a lot of Tides games!). His numbers are such that I am surprised he is not talked about more. I think he could easily step in for Matusz next year, but I have been thinking why shouldn't he be thrown into the mix with Davies, Wright, Wilson as a competitor for the 5th starter spot (assuming we don't sign a better starting pitcher).

Again I have to wonder if his stuff plays at the ML level? He has pitched very well and is 26 years old. Is he in the mix for a lefty bullpen job next year if and when Matusz is DFAd to start next year?

Well, there are a lot of factors that will go into that.

Bud Norris had a horrible year and was released, Miguel Gonzalez has been struggling for over a month, and Wei-Yin Chen is available for free agency at season's end.

Hence, I suspect that a potential spot in the 2016 starting rotation is not necessarily out of the question for Jones, although Tyler Wilson and Mike Wright are probably ahead of him on the "next chance" list.

Darren O'Day is also available for free agency after this season also, so our bullpen will have a major hole to fill if he leaves.

It depends on whether or not we retain Chen, if Gonzalez is able to return to form, if O'Day is retained, etc.

P.S. I haven't seen Jones pitch yet, so I have no idea if his impressive AAA numbers have a good chance to eventually translate to the majors. Stotle would probably have a better idea.

Was only at 80 pitches after the 8th inning.

Was taken out after 3 pitches in the 9th inning when he hit a batter.

Recorded 25 outs, due to a dropped 3rd strike that reached safely.

Excellent strikes-to-balls ratio, as usual for Jones.
