Potential Landing Spots for Chris Davis

Chris Davis showed his chops today by hitting a Grand Slam. So hey, why not speculate, talking heads write articles like this -- difference is, I claim NO inside information whatsoever. :thumbsup1:

1. New York Mets - the team already traded for Kelly Johnson and Juan Uribe, and when those two dramatically improve your lineup, you know you've got a bad lineup. Chris Davis would put a very nice cap on that improvement. They can move Lucas Duda to LF where Michael Cuddyer has been injured / ineffective, or move Davis to the OF where he has been playing lately (either he or Granderson would move to LF). Davis would really make a difference in that lineup. And they've still got plenty of youth to trade.

2. Saint Louis Cardinals - the Cards don't really need anyone else, but their first basemen is (wait for it) Mark Reynolds, who has all of nine home runs this year. Davis is a significant upgrade. Again, plenty of youth to trade from.

3. Washington Nationals - well yeah, it's Ryan Zimmerman's spot... but he's hurt / has stunk. The lineup is horribly imbalanced - it's Bryce Harper, a couple decent guys (Escobar, Span) and a lot of bad hitting otherwise. I don't know what return the Nats would give however, not to mention the teams aren't on the best of terms re: MASN.

4. Minnesota Twins - in the AL, the Twins could really use a left handed bat. Joe Mauer is their best, even including switch hitters, at a robust 102 OPS+. Mauer does play 1B, but either he or Davis can be kicked to DH in place of the current rotation of stinkage.

Davis, if he's really put on the block, could have a number of suitors. Any others?

Roch mentioned that there have been rumors the O's and Pirates have talked about a deal that would send a pair of pitching prospects back to the Orioles. It would make some sense. The Bucs are near the bottom in home runs and badly need a defensive upgrade at first base. They're stocked with pitching (and outfield) prospects. Adding Davis along with the newly re-acquired Aramis Ramirez might give them a real shot at the World Series with those big three starting pitchers.

Long-term, I expect him to sign with the Red Sox this winter with Boston outbidding St. Louis.

Makes no sense. Ramirez has never played first base. Ever. The Pirates have been having a terrible time with defense at that position and are looking to upgrade (they played Sean Rodriguez there tonight and he made a terrible mistake). They're not going to try to solve that problem by sticking Ramirez over there to play a position he's never played. Harrison probably won't be back until around the first of September anyway, but when he's back he'll probably platoon with Polanco in right (Polanco is hitting .160 against lefties), while also seeing some time at third and second. Chris Davis is exactly what they need if they really want to take a shot at winning the World Series. It's just a matter of the Orioles being willing to deal him and the Pirates being willing to part with those pitching prospects they've supposedly been discussing.

Pirates and Mets need him more than the LAAA.
