2016 Orioles Home Run Tracker

We've enjoyed a team that has hit at least 200 home runs each of the past four seasons -- a feat no other team in baseball has accomplished. Before, I had mentioned the possibility of breaking the franchise record of 257 home runs. Now, we're actually seeing projections that are in the neighborhood. FanGraphs has us projected at 245 home runs for example.

Last season, 2015, the Orioles hit 217 team home runs which ranks second all time among Orioles teams. Forty home runs is an awful lot of ground to make up, but we have several reasons why it may happen: Mark Trumbo, Pedro Alvarez, a healthy J.J. Hardy (and hopefully he stays that way), a supposedly healthy Matt Wieters, Machado and Davis to start the season, Jonathan Schoop entering veteran-hood, and so on. Hope springs eternal. Something's going to go wrong. It happens to every team, every year. Nonetheless the projections say we are in for a wild ride in 2016.

Trumbo, acquired from Seattle in an offseason trade, is the first Baltimore batter ever with two homers in the same inning, and first in the majors since Toronto's Edwin Encarnacion against Houston on July 26, 2013, according to STATS.
Baltimore starter Vance Worley (1-0) had already thrown his last pitch before the Orioles became the first team in nearly three years to homer four times in the same inning. Detroit homered four times in the fourth inning against Baltimore on June 1, 2013, according to STATS.

Hit tracker only measures the Schoop blast at 413 feet. Adam Jones just hit the longest of the season, at 460 ft.

After seeing all of this I don't believe Mickey Mantle ever hit a home run 643 ft. The longest recorded home runs in history are about 540 ft (by the original Bash Bros).

He had the wrong date on this. It was actually Sept. 5, 1995-- better known as the night Cal Ripken tied Lou Gehrig's streak (2,130 games).
