Baltimore Orioles (7-0, 1st +2.5) @ Boston Red Sox (3-4, 3rd -4.0)

Streak / L10

BAL: N/A

BOS: N/A

*2015 stats will be used for now; switching to 2016 stats for Tillman's next start (14th?)

Game 3 (7:10)

(QS=1)Ubaldo Jimenez (12-10) 4.11 (1.36/.257), 168/68 (20HR)

vs.

(QS=0)Joe Kelly (10-6) 4.82 (1.44/.276), 110/49, (15HR)

Ubaldo Jimenez: Jimenez pitched a beauty in his 2016 debut against the Twins and is the only quality start by an Orioles starter so far this season. However, all is not well in this one. Jimenez gets crushed at Fenway and is even worse against Boston when all starts are factored in. He has walked a whopping 21 batters in 29 Fenway innings averaging 4.8 innings a start. Well, at least we're facing Joe Kelly who isn't exactly lighting the world on fire in this situation either. Not the world, only the field. We may have a bonfire on the field at Fenway before this one is over with because both these starters always bring their gas cans with them to the mound in this park. This could be another high scoring affair.

Joe Kelly: After posting a 2.6 WAR in 2013 for StL, it's all been downhill from there for the most part. He followed that year up with a 0.3, then -0.1, then 0.2 and last year's 1.1 though he finished with a 4.82 (1.44/.276) which isn't great at all. In his first start this season, he went three innings and allowed seven runs on seven hits (1HR) and three walks which makes it a whopping 10 baserunners allowed in only three frames.

Kelly hasn't done well at all in Fenway Park with an ERA flirting with five, a WHIP flirting with 1.50 and a BA in the .280's. Those numbers get even worse in five starts against the Orioles with Pedro Alvarez having seen Kelly more than anyone in our lineup with some success. For the most part though, righties harrass Kelly the most across the board. His numbers with runners on were hit and miss, but was generally at his best when there's two outs.

Pitch wise, well let's take a look. Kelly has four bad ranges and three decent ones.

The bad: 1-15 (.325/.369/.560), 46-60 (.300/.333/.406), 61-75 (.321/.411/.400) and 91-105 (.288/.351/.404). The good: 16-30 (.243/.318/.273), 31-45 (.209/.313/.361) and 76-90 (.250/.288/.313). The Orioles may come out swinging in the first inning looking for an early lead.

Splits & Sits

298 vs. left: .254/.309/.359, 5HR

289 vs. right: .299/.374/.408, 10HR

Bases Empty: .286, 8HR

RISP: .252

RISP w/2 outs: .151

Men on w/2 outs: .210

Man on 3rd < 2 outs: .261

Career @ Fenway Park (17 starts)

(7-5) 4.90 (1.49/.283), 8HR

Career vs Baltimore (5 starts)

(1-2) 5.40 (1.48/.265), 3HR, 11BB in 25 IP

vs. Batter

Pedro Alvarez (15 AB) .267, 2B, HR, 4RBI, 4BB

Adam Jones 2/8, RBI

Jonathan Schoop 0/8, BB

Chris Davis 4/7, 2B, 2BB

J.J. Hardy 3/6

Caleb Joseph 1/6, S-HR, 2BB

Manny Machado 1/6, BB

Ryan Flaherty 0/6, 2RBI, BB

Matt Wieters 0/3

Wow, 7-0! Mike Wright didn't look all that great and didn't have control of his off-speed stuff very much at all. He hit two batters and bounced how many change-ups to Wheat? I think Wright has "bullpen" written all over him and hopefully not in permanent marker because it's going to get him teased every day by his teammates. Buchholz looked pretty good until his implosion in the sixth, but the biggest pitching story for the Orioles IMO is 2.1 solid innings by Bundy allowing only three hits and the RBI double from Ortiz, but no strikeouts or walks.

So, now going for the sweep, it's Jimenez and Kelly. Pedroia and Sandoval have hit him well in the past, but only Alvarez has double digit AB's against Kelly. Jimenez blows against Boston and at Fenway and Kelly blows against Baltimore and at Fenway. Looks like there might be a lot of balls flying around the park again in this one. Trumbo will be going for three games in a row with a home run as his power stroke is picking up nicely and the Orioles will go for an 8-0 start to the season. What's better is it's entirely possible this happens tomorrow.
