Cristian Alvarado

As I said in the DJ Stewart thread, I went to the Shorebirds game tonight intrigued to see Stewart and Ryan Mountcastle. Neither did anything to stand out or inspire hope, so to speak. However, I wanted to ask about tonight's starter Cristian Alvarado. He struck out 8 in 5 innings, including the side in the first. Only 21, signed as a free agent in 2011 so I presume he was an international signing. Stadium radar gun had him in the 87-88 range from what I saw. Anyone seen him and have any thoughts? Could he be someone to watch down the road?

He might have thrown harder when I saw him, I only said 87-88 because every time I looked up at the stadium gun that's what it said.

It's probably been mentione before, but any indication of whether the Delmarva gun is fast/slow? What was the opposing starter hitting?

So after striking out just one batter in his first start spanning five innings, Alvarado has now fanned 39 over his last 5 starts covering 26.1 innings. Just 6 walks over his last five outings too. Might have to get down to Delmarva soon to see what this kid is throwing and whether he should be on the prospect radar now.

Thanks. That sounds like good investment of a day.
