Baltimore Orioles (15-11, 2nd -0.5) vs. New York Yankees (9-16, 5th -6.0)

Streak / L10

BAL: -1, Lost 3 of 4 / L10: 4-6

NYY: +1, Lost 6 of 7 / L10: 3-7

Game 3 (7:05)

(QS=1)Kevin Gausman (0-1) 2.45 (0.91/.175), 10/3 (1HR)

vs.

(QS=3)Masahiro Tanaka (1-0) 2.87 (0.96/.205), 28/6 (2HR)

Kevin Gausman: Gausman has allowed only three earned runs in the 11 innings he has thrown so far this year with only seven hits and three walks allowed and is 15/15 on the type of outs he gets. He has thrown 91 and 94 pitches, but the Orioles have lost both games he has started thus far. He has been very good against the Yankees in almost 40 innings and that looks like it may continue against this Yankees team. Tanaka is tough no matter what team he's on, so he will need to pitch well here.

Masahiro Tanaka: Tanaka has thrown 20.2 innings over his last three starts allowing two earned in each of them with only 17 hits and one walk allowed over that span. Tanaka is a ground ball pitcher so far this season (53/36), but has not thrown 100 pitches in a game yet though he threw 99 and 97 in the last two. This will be the first time he has pitched at Camden Yards, but has done well in four starts against the Orioles despite being prone to the home run.

The Yankees blew out the Orioles in game two winning 7-0 and marks the second time in three games that the Yankees have put up seven runs. Wilson was going well, but ultimately fell apart in the sixth inning including throwing a ball down the first base line on a play at first. The Yankees owe this win to Jacoby Ellsbury who really stepped up his game in this one and got that sixth inning rally started as their six game skid is finally snapped. It looks like the Yankees offense may be waking up after all and suddenly, the Orioles are in danger of finishing two series on this home stand and not having won either of them. The Orioles have now lost three of four at home and it seems like this honeymoon that started 7-0 is really crashing down in a hurry as the team is 8-11 since then. Obviously, those nifty team BA and BA w/RISP numbers everyone loves throwing around isn't doing the Orioles a bit of good when it comes to winning games lately and that's the most important number of all. The Orioles lineup is full of power hitters, but not a whole lot of skillful/smart hitters.

So, Tanaka and Gausman. Gausman has pitched well for his career against the Yankees and the guy that hits him the best (A-Rod) won't be playing. Tanaka has also pitched well against the Orioles, but has been prone to the home run ball. Unfortunately, that's about all he gives up as his WHIP and BAA are very low. This will be Tanaka's first career start at Camden Yards, so we'll see how that factors into things.

In the division, the Orioles fall back to a half game in second place while Toronto, who has won two in a row, sits three back of the division leading Red Sox, TB at 3.5 back and the Yankees bringing up the rear six games out after the first month and change of the season.

I am not terribly optimistic about this game tonight. We really haven't hit well(outside of Trumbo and Manny) in a week and still face their best.Im hoping Gausman can keep us in it, but again, Im not upbeat.

Reverse jinx! I like it!

Not upbeat at all. But Gausman looks ok. And Gardner is out because of the DBundy HBP. (xrays negative)
