Chris Tillman: What a start Chris Tillman has gotten off to this season as he has now thrown four straight quality starts and has been very solid overall, but the one thing that stands out is 13 walks in 26 innings with four walks in each of the last two starts. Tillman has been strong at home in five starts and is 4-0 in seven starts against the Tigers with strong numbers. However, the Tigers have three guys that hit him pretty good.

Justin Verlander: In Verlander's five quality starts, he has a 3.06 (1.24). In the other two starts, it's 13.55 (2.47). So, Verlander has pitched better than his stats would show, but he allowed seven runs in each of those other two starts and one of them came two starts ago. He is coming off his best start of the season where he threw seven shutout innings against Texas of three hit ball. He walked two (in every game except one where he allowed three) and struck out nine and he will look to build on that in this start. Verlander is a perfect 7-0 at Camden Yards in eight dominant starts, but the numbers career reflect that he pitches poorly against the Orioles in Detroit. His away numbers are inflated from the one seven run game, so we will see if he can continue his dominance at the Yards. No one in our lineup hits particularly well against him, but Verlander has struggled against righties while holding down lefties pretty well.

The Orioles needed some heroics in this game as they went down 5-0 in this one and came back with seven unanswered runs to win the game behind some great hitting from Orioles hitters. They were hitting it where it was pitched and stringing them together even going to the opposite field in this game. I know it's likely just a mirage, but a great team hitting day for the Orioles who win in spite of Jimenez's best efforts to have pity on the Tigers, but the Tigers bullpen wants no pity or wins and they had their way tonight. The Orioles have now won five in a row.

This pitching matchup could go either way. Verlander is undefeated and dominant at Camden Yards and Tillman is undefeated and dominant against the Tigers and at home this season. There are, however, three guys in Detroit's lineup that have hit Tillman well and none in the Baltimore lineup that hits Verlander well. It really could go either way on paper.

Boston won again today and are neck and neck with us as Toronto slips 4.5 back, but eventually, the Orioles and Red Sox will cool down and the Jays will get it together and start winning. All of their major players are healthy, but the Rays probably won't be players this year just like the Yankees won't. I think it is way too early (mid-May is early) to count anyone out of anything except the Braves, Twins, Brewers and Reds who are all more than 10 games off the lead and in last place in their division. At any rate, a lot can and probably will change before it's all said and done. I think it's interesting that all five teams in the Central lost today, though.
