Game 2 (10:05)

vs.

(QS=2)Matt Shoemaker (2-5) 8.49 (1.85/.328), 22/13 (7HR)

Kevin Gausman: After coming strong out of the gates for his first three starts, Gausman has allowed seven runs over his last 11 innings in his last two starts with 15 hits, four walks and a pair of home runs to go with it. He allowed four runs on 10 hits and two walks in five innings against the Tigers in his last start, so maybe Gausman is cooling off a bit though I didn't think it would come so soon. He has not fared well in a couple starts against the Angels and his one start at Angels Stadium wasn't good at all.

Matt Shoemaker: Shoemaker has had a great deal of difficulty so far this season and was hurt a great deal by the long ball in April. He allowed six or more earned in three of his five April starts, but the other two were back to back QS. In May, Shoemaker seems to be settling down a bit for him. His last start was five innings against the Dodgers where he allowed three runs on six hits, two walks and a home run. The Angels have 4/5ths of their starting rotation on the DL at this time, so they are hoping Shoemaker can work things out enough to be serviceable in his current role. Despite having very good career numbers at Angels Stadium for his career, all three of his home starts this season have been pretty awful. He has done well against the Orioles in two starts with 17 strikeouts in 12.2 innings and no walks.

The Orioles begin the road trip on the right foot with the big win. The Angels came back to tie it at four with two unearned runs, but gave gave two unearned runs right back in the next half inning and the Angels never recovered from that collapse. Wheat sure is seeing the ball well right now and Janish is pretty good at third base defensively and I want to see him some more over there. We don't need him to hit home runs or fit into some mold that says what a third baseman needs to be. We're getting the power elsewhere and we don't need a slugger at every position. Lets see if the Orioles can win this one, too.

Shoemaker has been far worse overall this season so far, but Gausman struggled in his last start and was hit hard in his only start in this ballpark. Shoemaker might be starting to get it together, so we'll see what happens here.

In the division, the Yankees (+3), Jays (+2) and Rays (+4) are all winning lately while the Orioles and Red Sox have slowed down a bit lately. In the Central, Cleveland is now only 1.5 games behind the White Sox as the Indians have won five in a row and KC has pulled to within 3.5 as well.
