Baltimore Orioles (28-21, 2nd -2.0) vs. Boston Red Sox (31-20, 1st +2.0)

Streak / L10

BAL: -1, Lost 6 of 8 / L10: 4-6

BOS: +2, Lost 3 of 5 / L10: 6-4

Game 2 (7:05)

(QS=3)Kevin Gausman (0-2) 3.24 (1.13/.239), 37/9 (6HR) / (*L3: (0-1) 4.87 (1.62), 4HR)

vs.

(QS=0)Eduardo Rodriguez (2016 Debut)

Kevin Gausman: Gausman has allowed nine earned over his last three starts totaling 16.2 IP including four home runs with three coming in his last one. He has done a fantastic job at keeping walks to a minimum though with only nine total in 41.2 innings. He has done well at home this season and against Boston for his career, but it seems like he has entered his first rough stretch of the season. The only question now is how long will it last?

Eduardo Rodriguez: Rodriguez will make his first start of the season here against his former team due to a knee injury that kept him sidelined for the first two months of the season. E-Rod pitched to a 3.85 (1.29/.255) in 121.2 innings last season as a rookie in 21 starts and at least should be able to do better than that this season. Rodriguez has dominated the Orioles in two starts at Camden Yards, but got hammered in his only start against them at Fenway. Fortunately for him, this one is at the Yards.

Steven Wright was very tough on the Orioles today as very few balls were hit hard off of him and Boston's offense never let up. To sum it up, the Orioles never had a chance in this game and Wright goes the distance for the third time this month which is huge for Boston after going into extras with Toronto yesterday. Boston looks to be a great deal better than the Orioles which could mean a very bad outcome to this series.

Gausman is in the middle of a rough stretch having allowed four runs in two of the last three including three home runs in the last game and four overall in those three starts. The only question now is how long will KG remain in this funk? He pitches well at home this season and against Boston for his career, so that's good at least. E-Rod has made two starts against the Orioles at Camden Yards and was practically untouchable with a microscopic ERA and BAA, but six walks in 11.1 innings. Rodriguez will be making his first start of the season, so he'll be pumped I'm sure. This one really could go either way.

In the division, Toronto and NY are playing and the Jays are up 3-0 in the top of the fifth with Marco Estrada on the hill who has a sharp 2.76 (1.06) in 58.2 innings this season which is far better than Stroman has done. Cleveland is down big to Texas in the late innings and KC/TB are just about to get underway. The White Sox dropped their seventh in a row to the Mets as they lost 1-0 and got only two hits off starter Matt Harvey and were blanked for two innings by the Mets bullpen. Quintana pitched well too, but it wasn't enough. Detroit plays the Angels in about a half hour and with a win tonight, KC can move two games into first place with their fourth straight win. The Rays have lost seven of 10 and really struggling lately. In the West, all teams will have won if Texas closes out Cleveland and, of course, the Angels play later. There is currently a three way tie for third place with Houston and Oakland having won three in a row and the Angels having lost two in a row with all three teams being seven games off the division leading Rangers (if they win) who will be up on Seattle by a half game and will have won three in a row and seven of 10.
