Baltimore Orioles (30-22, 2nd -1.0) vs. New York Yankees (25-28, 4th -6.5)

Streak / L10

BAL: +2, Lost 7 of 11 / L10: 4-6

NYY: +1, Lost 3 of 4 / L10: 4-6

Game 1 (7:05)

(QS=6)Chris Tillman (7-1) 2.92 (1.13/.203), 61/27 (6HR)

vs.

(QS=5)Nathan Eovaldi (6-2) 3.71 (1.17/.242), 57/15 (7HR) / (*L3: (3-0) 1.00 (0.77), 0HR)

Chris Tillman: Tillman was tagged for three home runs against Cleveland which equals the amount of home runs he had given up all season prior to that game and was only the second time this season that Tillman allowed more than three runs. He has allowed five of his six home runs over the last three starts and he has also walked three batters in each of those starts as walks continue to be an issue for him. Is this the start of a slump for Tillman? He has not fared well against the Yankees in 17 career starts, but he is undefeated at home in seven starts this season with a fantastic line.

Nathan Eovaldi: Eovaldi put up a 3.25 ERA in six May starts and has won five straight. He is looking like a fine young pitcher developing for the Yankees and a guy that does not walk people much with only 15 in 60.2 IP and a healthy 57 K's to go with it. Eovaldi has allowed only two runs over the last 18 innings and only 14 base runners. He has been pitching very, very well and will look to continue that here against the Orioles whom he has been serviceable against in three starts.

Jimenez came out strong allowing only one hit through five innings, but the Orioles were down 5-4 in the sixth before Jimenez could even record an out and may have just lost his job tonight. The Orioles then came back to score eight runs on seven home runs as the Boston pitching staff fell apart in the last two games helping the Orioles to overcome two more horrible efforts from our starters. It's nice to see the Orioles scoring a bunch of runs and taking it to the Red Sox, but our starting pitching hasn't been good this series at all, so it's a good thing Boston's pitchers decided to take a dump as well. Orioles pitching has allowed six or more runs in all four of these games. The Orioles like to score all their runs in a handful of games, then limp through another two weeks. I hope they have more than two games in them as our schedule is tough this month. Even with the 25 runs in the final two games, they allowed 29 runs to Boston in this series as well as scoring 29 runs.

Tillman is coming off perhaps his worst start of the season and Eovaldi is red hot and has been pitching very well. Tillman struggles against the Yankees for his career and while not dominant, Eovaldi has managed to keep the runs off the board in his three starts against the Orioles. We will have to see if Tillman is on the doorstep of a cold streak or not here.

With the Orioles split, they are now right where they started before the Boston series began one game back. Toronto continues to win and now sit 3.5 back of the lead. In the Central, KC finally lost a game, but remain in the lead by 1.5 games as they duke it out with Cleveland with Chicago 1.5 back as well with the off day today. Seattle is losing big to SD in the top of the seventh, but Texas lost today as did everyone in the West except Oakland who has won five in a row.
