Baltimore Orioles (31-23, 2nd -1.0) vs. New York Yankees (26-29, 4th -6.5)

Streak / L10

BAL: -1, Won 3 of 4 / L10: 5-5

NYY: +1, Won 2 of 3 / L10: 4-6

NEW: Quality Start minimum requirements (experimental, suggestions welcome)

- 6 IP, 2ER

- 7 IP, 3ER

- Game ERA must be 4.00 or less

Game 3 (1:35)

(QS=3)Kevin Gausman (0-3) 3.78 (1.13/.235), 45/11 (9HR)

vs.

(QS=4)CC Sabathia (3-4) 2.85 (1.20/.233), 40/16 (2HR)

Kevin Gausman: Gausman has been touched up for three home runs in each of his last two starts and has allowed nine runs over the last 11 IP and 14 runs over the last 22.2 IP with seven home runs allowed. His home numbers have spiked hard, but still remain pretty good with the ERA barely under four. He has always done well against the Yankees, so hopefully that will continue here.

Alex Rodriguez 4/8, 2B, 2HR, 2RBI

Chase Headley 1/5

Aaron Hicks 2/5, 2B

Starlin Castro 1/3, 2B

CC Sabathia: Sabathia got off to a bit of a rough start in April finishing with a 5.06 ERA, but he countered that in May with a 1.06 ERA allowing only three earned runs in 26 IP. Sabathia has been on fire and has been at his best on the road. He has always pitched well against the Orioles and at Camden Yards. His first May start was seven shutout innings against this Orioles team.

Well, Nova pitched well for the Yankees, but ran out of gas in the seventh and Girardi pulled a Buck Showalter and left him in a little too long and it ultimately cost the Yankees six runs in that seventh inning and reduced their seven run lead down to one. Wilson was another tally on the tote board of Orioles pitching giving up 5+ runs and expecting the offense to make it all up every night. It is not a winning formula I don't care how good the offense is and it's going to have to get better if the Orioles want to be playing postseason baseball in September.

Gausman has pitched well against the Yankees, but has been doing very bad lately overall while Sabathia has been pitching really well and has always done well against the Orioles. He has also been at his best on the road this season. How much longer is Gausman going to be like this? Also, does Buck start Kim here? I don't know how you can sit him at this point being one of the team's best and most consistent hitters. Buck let Kim hit against Miller, so why not Sabathia? Pinch hitting Reimold against Chapman was the right call even though it didn't work out.

Boston reclaims the division lead with a win over Toronto who sits 3.5 back and the Rays have won two in a row and may be on their way out of their freefall. In the Central, the Indians are on the verge of sweeping KC in their four game series with one game remaining tomorrow and take a half game lead in the division and the White Sox dropped their second in a row and eighth of 10. In the West, Texas has taken a two game lead over Seattle as their head to head series continues. Houston just keeps on winning and are now in sole possession of third place, but can't get closer than seven games.

I know we don't run, but with a banged up McCann, I wonder if we'll put Rickard in motion.

I just hope he gets on base so we have the opportunity to find out.
