Jimenez posted an 8.28 ERA in May and has continued that trend into June. He was lights out for five innings, but then completely blew up in the sixth allowing five runs without recording an out. He has allowed 20 ER over his last 16.2 IP and there's also three UER in there as well. There's not a whole lot to be confident about with him right now.

Ventura's problems this season can be summed up with one word; control. He has 35 walks in 61 IP and has allowed five home runs over the last five starts. He walked 20 in 27 April innings and 13 in 28.2 May innings, so perhaps that is getting a bit better. However, he had a 3.67 ERA in April and a 6.59 ERA in May, so then again, maybe not. Whatever the reason is, Ventura has struggled to keep the runs off the board, but he is coming off his best start since April when he threw seven innings against the Orioles and allowed only three hits, two walks and one run. He went six against Cleveland allowing only one earned on seven hits and two walks and no home runs allowed, so maybe he is about to get going again. Ventura has always gotten good results against the Orioles though not quite as good at Camden Yards. His away numbers are inflated a bit, though. In his last three road starts, Ventura has a 3.50 (1.56) which isn't as bad as his overall road numbers. He walked nine batters over those three starts.

The Royals offensive struggles continue as they have now only managed three runs over the last four games and even managed to make Mike Wright look elite. Duffy pitched a hell of a game himself, but fatigue led to two solo home runs for the Orioles in the seventh and that was all that was needed. The Orioles have managed to run into another team marred in a horrendous offensive slump. After going on a tear to briefly climb atop the AL Cental, the Royals are looking like they don't believe in themselves right now and the Orioles will surely take advantage of that. We have now won five of six.

Jimenez and Ventura are two guys who have struggled with command this season though Jimenez has been far worse and Ventura is coming off a solid, quality start. I really have no faith in Jimenez right now and do not expect much of anything from him at this point.

With Boston's off day today, the Orioles move into sole possession of first place by a half game while the Royals are two games back of Cleveland pending the results of their game against Seattle which they are currently losing 3-1 in the sixth inning. Toronto was pounded 11-0 by the Tigers who have won four in a row and are now threatening to push the White Sox to fourth in the division as they both sit three games back of the Indians. In the West, Texas edged over Houston 6-5 pushing them back to eight games out, but still in third place. Oakland has lost three in a row and now sit 10 back in last place. It's going to be tough for anyone to catch up to Texas in that division as the Mariners have fallen 3.5 games behind them as well.

I am trying this new format, but it's more work for me to update every game and I might not stick with it every time. We'll see how it goes.

Ubaldo is a bum. Ventura is a bum. Orioles win 15-14.

We better score some runs tonight. At least 7.
