Tillman has struggled for the better part of the last month and is allowing a lot of home runs. Something about this just makes me wonder if Tillman is trying to pitch through some kind of undisclosed injury. The guy we've seen in five of his last seven starts is nothing like the guy we saw from opening day until May 24th. He finished June with a 5.19 ERA and eight home runs allowed which is more than he allowed in the other two months combined. He also allowed 20 runs in June compared to 21 in April and May combined. The Dodgers aren't a strong offensive team, but neither are the Rays who dropped six runs and 10 hits on him in five innings two starts ago.

Last 7 starts (40.2 IP): (4-2) 2.22 (1.11), 3HR

Maeda has been very good for the Dodgers this season. He allowed only one run total in his first four starts of 25.1 IP, then had a rough stretch where he allowed four runs in four of his next five starts. In the seven starts since then, he has been fantastic. He allowed four runs one time, but allowed two or fewer in the other six. Maeda is good for 6-7 innings more times than not when he's going well and doesn't give up many home runs.

The bad home plate umpire didn't help, but both teams got burned tonight especially Urias. However, the Orioles could not hold a 3-0 lead and eventually lose the game 6-5 for their fifth straight loss. Gallardo didn't pitch well and the Dodgers bullpen show why they are perhaps the best in the league as they completely shut down the Orioles offense after getting five runs off of Urias. Game two coming up and Maeda is good and much more experienced and polished than Urias. I did like what I saw from the kid despite the bad outing. He didn't stop pitching and he didn't lose his composure no matter how many curveballs he threw right down the middle that weren't called which was the perhaps the most impressive thing I saw considering he is only 19 years old. I think he has a bright future.

I'm starting to get to a point where I don't know what to expect from Tillman again, but Maeda has been very good before and after his adjustment period in May. Tillman has made three awful starts in a row and will look to correct it here in his first career start against the Dodgers, but I'm not that hopeful. No idea what to expect from him.

With Boston's slaughtering of the Rangers, they have won two in a row and are now only two games back of the Orioles and the Blue Jays followed suit to pull to 2.5 games back with their third straight win. It looks like Boston might be heating up again and Texas has cooled off quite a bit having lost three in a row. Houston edged out the M's today 2-1 to move to within 7.5 games of the Rangers as they seem to be eyeing them up. It could get interesting over there and in the Central, the Indians look like they will snap the Tigers six game winning streak and KC has lost two in a row as well. The White Sox have won three in a row with all three of those teams within two games of the WC with both spots currently held by Boston and Toronto.

I'm feeling good about Tillman pitching tonight....he's in Calif. Going back to his home base, feeling comfortable - he'll be fine.

Gotta stay positive, good things are coming. This staff can heal and come together. They'll be giving the pen some rest soon.

I have to go now, the orderlies are coming with that jacket.... don't touch me!

Im sorry, but I fear a sweep in this series too. I just don't like our pitching anywhere except Brach and Britton and we haven't had a lead to use them. The most galling thing would be to lose to Bud Norris in the final game in the series.

This team is taking on water fast.
