Whether it's before the DL or after, Gallardo overall has not been very good. He had a 7.00 (1.66) in four April starts and since coming off the DL, his line is 5.32 (1.63). He has allowed a home run in each start since coming off the DL and though he hasn't been quite as bad as he was in April, it's still not very good. In his only start against the Angels, he allowed five runs in four innings. Albert Pujols has owned him in 30 ABs as well.

Tropiano has not been getting deep into games having only gone six innings or more twice in 11 starts this season, but he keeps the runs off the board more times than not having allowed two runs or less in eight of his starts. His WHIP is quite high mostly due to walks and has never faced the Orioles before.

Behind typically terrible Orioles pitching again, the offense is outscored by the pitching staff of both teams and lose 9-5 as both Jimenez and Wright pitch poorly and accounted for all those runs. Suddenly, the Orioles are in jeopardy of losing this series and must pull out two in a row again. The pitching is just killing this team and they can't possibly make the postseason if this does not improve.

Tropiano has been a solid back of the rotation starter for the Angels this season despite getting away with a high WHIP while Gallardo just hasn't been good (game ERA under four) in all but a couple starts. Orioles pitching has been atrocious and seems to only be getting worse on average, so it's difficult to have high hopes for Gallardo here.

Boston won their second in a row and Toronto won their seventh in a row today to pull to within one game of the Orioles who continue to slide having lost six of their last eight games. Hanley Ramirez left the Boston game with a leg injury in the ninth inning. Cleveland was the only team in the Central to win today and Texas beat the Twins though they needed to come from behind to do it. Houston allowed five runs to the A's in the ninth inning to go up 9-7, but Valbuena hit a three run homer in the bottom of the ninth to walk it off.
