Chris Tillman

(14-2)

3.18 (1.19/.226)

108K / 48BB, 14HR

QS: 12

</b>

Tillman has now thrown four straight starts of seven innings and one run allowed and is red hot after a rough June. I think he has to be in talks for a Cy Young at this point in time if he can keep this up and already has 14 wins including a perfect 8-0 at home. He remains on pace for a career high in walks by a large margin, but it doesn't seem to be hurting him as much as it probably should be. Tillman has never faced the Rockies before, but has seen some of their hitters before.

Chad Bettis

(8-6)

5.31 (1.47/.296)

89K / 31BB, 14HR

QS: 7

Bettis has a strong April (3.77) and is having a strong July (3.46), but was awful in May (7.02) and June (6.84) and has allowed three runs or less in five of the last seven starts. He has generally been bad with runners on base this season and allowed eight runs in 2.2 innings in his only start against the Orioles which was also at Camden Yards with six of those runs being unearned.

Gallardo tosses his first sub-4 ERA game and De La Rosa has a strong performance as well, but the Rockies ultimately gave the game away in the 10th with a ground ball that should have been a double play to end the inning that turned into a play at the plate which would have been an out, but Hundley just dropped the ball allowing the winning run to score and the Orioles get their fifth straight win.

Not much to say here. Tillman is hot and has been unbeatable at home this season while Bettis is pretty much just some guy. The Rockies will have to play one hell of a game to win this one. A sixth straight seems inevitable for the Orioles here.

Boston loses to fall to 2.5 back and Toronto wins to stay at three back. The Yankees also beat Houston tonight as they continue to play well. The Tigers are 5.5 back of Cleveland who had the off day today and the Angels are beating KC. The White Sox look like they will beat the Cubs and Texas is losing to Oakland entering the bottom of the ninth.
