Really not much to say here. he's been awful unless the opposing team is a weak team like the Padres. It is possible he pitches well here just to try to redeem himself, but the Twins have been playing a lot better lately and should prove to be a tougher challenge than they were back in April. He does have very good numbers against the Twins and at Target Field, so there's always that.

After a rough April (6.10) and missing all of May due to injury, he posted a 4.32 ERA in June and a 3.86 in July. He allowed four runs in five innings back in early April against the Orioles. Over the last six starts, Gibson has three sub-4 ERA starts and three starts of four runs allowed. Overall though, he has brought his ERA down from 6.49 over the last seven starts following a disastrous outing against the Nats followed by another bad one against Boston. In his last start, he threw a two hitter through eight innings against Boston with only a solo home run allowed.

Just like that, the Orioles drop two of three to the Rockies at home despite a perfect five innings for Bundy. He allowed two home runs in the sixth for three runs and that was all the Rockies needed behind an outstanding start from Jon Gray. The Rockies pitchers really took it to the Orioles, but fortunately, all other teams in the East except the Rays lost today. Toronto has an off day before e play them ensuring they will be full rested while we go to Minnesota to play the Twins who have the worst pitching staff in the AL, but have been scoring runs lately. It's just their pitching gives up more. They were going pretty good this month and are still 12-10 in July, but are 5-6 since the break.

It's really hard to favor Jimenez in any matchup these days, but he could surprise here for one start at least as he tries to earn his way back into having a job in the rotation. The good career numbers against the Twins and at Target Field are encouraging at least.

Both Toronto and Boston lost today as Boston continues their slump as did the Yankees to Houston. The Cubs are slaughtering the White Sox and Detroit pulls to within 2.5 games of the WC currently held by the struggling Red Sox. Texas lost their second in a row to Oakland and Seattle were slaughtered by the Pirates. So, Houston closes to a game of the WC and 2.5 of Texas for the division and the Tigers are making a run at it themselves pulling to 4.5 games of Cleveland.

    • There is no question in my mind that the coaching staff and analytics staff is doing everything in their power to make sure that Holliday is as well prepared as possible before every game.  And he's been in few enough games at this point to where I wonder if there's enough data yet to start drawing up an effective strategy anyway.  Now that the decision has been made to bring him up, Holliday is owed a long enough window to show he can't make the adjustment even with the benefit of the best support.  If that means he has to be sent down, I'm not going to stress about it.  I'm also not going to hold my breath that he'll turn the corner even so.  Adley made it, Gunnar made it, so did Westburg and Cowser and Mountcastle and Grayson...  If Holliday doesn't make it I'll be surprised and disappointed, but the Orioles under Elias are still way ahead of the game and Norby is looking for an opportunity and time marches on.
    • We have 5 guys on pace for 117 RBI.
    • If a good defensive SS hits 54 HR and is only worth 8.1 WAR I’m gonna have some serious questions on their methodology.
    • It’s not the same …. Henderson was batting just under .200. Holliday is batting .040. So about 20 % as good as Henderson was at his worst. And he’s striking out in more than 1 out of 2 trips to the plate.   There is no sense panicking either way. But, there is nothing wrong with sending him down. I think too many of you guys are acting like not sticking with him is some kind of sin. As a fan, I’m worried about damaging his confidence too much.    Plus after all the bullshit from his father, hopefully now he will keep his mouth shut.
    • Pedantic is an adjective. Your definition has it as a noun.
    • There's a difference between being patient at the plate as opposed to comatose.
