Kevin Gausman

(2-7)

3.77 (1.27/.265)

95K / 23BB, 16HR

QS: 8

</b>

Gausman now has a 3.28 ERA in July after back to back 4+ ERA months. It's obvious he is going to have a start like his last at Cleveland every now and then. He also had one against the Rays during the four game sweep and against the Yankees way back at the beginning of May. Overall though, it seems like he will be shaky and inconsistent as a starting pitcher for now. He has been terrible on the road this year as his opponents are undefeated against him. He does have good numbers against Toronto and at Canadian Communications and Media Company Centre though his numbers are a bit higher there and no wins. He allowed two earned in 6.1 innings against Toronto in June and the Orioles lost that game 4-3 and allowed 10 base runners in that game. He still has not figured out how to deal with righties as they continue to hammer him.

Marco Estrada

(5-4)

2.94 (1.01/.179)

102K / 40BB, 14HR

QS: 9

Estrada has fallen off a bit posting a 3.58 ERA in June and a 4.09 in two July starts, but he did miss some time this month with a sore back. In his last start against Seattle which was his first back from the DL, he allowed two runs in six innings. His overall numbers are still fantastic and if healthy again, he should give the Jays a boost. Estrada has superb numbers at home this season and very good numbers against the Orioles as well in eight appearances. Just an overall outstanding year so far for Estrada and he will look to continue it here.

The Orioles drop the make-up game to the Twins who continue to score tons of runs no matter who they are facing. Jimenez threw a strong five innings of one run ball, but the Twins offense swung at a lot of bad pitches mostly due to inexperience and pressure trying to get the big hit.. and Buxton. I like that Kepler kid, though. Outstanding eye and great swing from the left side to go with the great arm. Anyway, the Orioles bullpen allows five runs to the Twins and now head to Toronto on a three game skid to face Estrada, Happ and Sanchez. This is easily the biggest series of the year for both teams and they're only going to get bigger from here.

Estrada has been at his best at home and has very good numbers against the Orioles for his career while Gausman has solid numbers against the Jays and decent numbers in their park. He is coming off a scoreless outing and when following such an outing this season in two starts, he has a 4.50 ERA. There was somewhat of a deal being made about Estrada being skipped in the rotation to line him up for this start, but considering he has come off the DL recently (and pitched well), the extra rest could be to his benefit rather than a detriment.

With only nine games being played today, there's not a lot going on. Boston's game is just about ready to get started and I will update here if applicable if they win against the Angels. Toronto gains a half game on the Orioles from home with Baltimore's loss to the Twins tonight and are now 1.5 games behind. If Boston wins, they will share second place with the Jays at 1.5 back. Cleveland and Detroit have days off today while the White Sox and Royals play. KC is currently up 2-1 on Texas in the fifth. Houston also has an off day today.
