Bundy has given up five home runs in 14 innings as a starter which has killed him and have been responsible for all of his earned runs allowed. He was brilliant through five innings against Colorado and brilliant for five innings total against Cleveland, but it took him nealry 90 pitches both times and he fell apart in the sixth against Colorado allowing two home runs and three runs which were the winning runs. Bundy is still riding high on his "unknown" status, but usually the cutoff is three starts before the league pushes back, maybe four. He will have to make adjustments to the league at any time now and I would be surprised if he was unable to do that when the time comes. His straight fastball concerns me for sure, but the change up is a pretty good one.

Darvish had made six starts since returning from Tommy John surgery in May and then again from the DL in July after feeling some shoulder discomfort. He has a 3.31 ERA in July with 26K in 16.1 innings, so he hasn't lost his stuff at all and hasn't had any awful starts since returning. His last two were sub-4 ERA starts of six innings. Surprisingly, Darvish has never faced the Orioles in 577.1 innings over three seasons pitching in the AL. This will be his first career start against the Orioles and at Camden Yards. Darvish has very good numbers on the road this season despite being 0-2 and having a WHIP on the high side, but be prepared for a ton of strikeouts.

The Orioles were able to avoid being swept in Toronto and hang on to first by a half game and you just knew the longer than game went on, the better the Orioles chances of winning due to bullpen strength lacking for the Jays. Tillman was ok and Sanchez was brilliant, so the Orioles dodged a bullet there. Boston has really been struggling lately, but they should be helped with their acquisition of Abad from the Twins who are up 10-3 on Cleveland in the sixth as I type this. Toronto is also playing the struggling Astros who have fallen to six behind Texas having lost three in a row while the Rangers were winning four in a row.

It seems the league has wised up to the Orioles one trick pony of an offense and are pitching this lineup much better. Fewer pitches in the middle of the plate is a common theme in both the Rockies series and the Jays series as well as Kyle Gibson and the Twins. With Darvish and Hamels tossing the first two games of this series, it's probably going to be more of the same. Texas has the worst bullpen in the AL, but they have been pitching much better as of late and I'm sure they are aware of how good the Orioles are at home. Having said that, the Rockies took two from the Orioles at home recently that could have easily been a sweep, so the likes of Darvish and Hamels just may be enough to duplicate that especially if the Texas offense stays hot. The additions of Beltran and Lucroy should help that cause, but at least we can say for sure that the Yankees won't be a factor from here on out.

Darvish brings an unknown element of his own to this game as he has never faced the Orioles which surprised me, but seems to be true. Texas has at least seen Bundy before, but didn't have success against him.

Surprised Texas didn't move to shore up their bullpen. Maybe they think they can just out bash teams and their starting pitching is good enough.

Until mid to late October?

Hanging out in the 20 Game Club on the 200 level - it was an absolute ghost town on the club level until about 10 minutes ago. A concession lady said they staffed for 21000 plus a few walk-ups tonight. Not our best game in terms of attendance but it's better than the dark years. We'd have had 10-15k in 2009 in early August.
