Kevin Gausman

(2-8) 4.18 (1.32/.271)

99K / 26BB, 19HR

QS: 8

</b>

Gausman upped his July ERA to 4.88 with his last start and his second three inning disaster in the last eight starts. Of those eight starts, only three were sub-4/6+ which have bumped his ERA to a season high 4.18. Righties are absolutely killing him and it seems to be getting worse. He has been at his best at home this season, but the numbers against Texas aren't good in four appearances.

Hamels is having an outstanding season which is what he usually does anyway and has allowed only two earned since the break. However, Hamels has been average at best in four starts against the Orioles which are numbers inflated due to his only start at Camden Yards which was a complete disaster. Hamels allowed three runs in 5.1 innings back in mid-April and the Rangers won that game. Hamels has been pitching much better over the last 11 starts than he was for the first two months. He had back to back five run starts to kick July off, but he allowed fewer than three runs in all but one of the other nine and that one saw three allowed in seven innings.

Bundy pitched just as well as he did for five innings against the Rockies allowing a hit and a walk through seven innings and has now been completely baffling to opponents for two starts in a row. The Rangers had a chance to get back in the game in the eighth, but couldn't score with the bases loaded and the Orioles get four solo homers with two coming from Alvarez. With game one in the books, the Orioles will look to make the best out of this brief homestand before hitting the road for 10 more games.

Gausman has proved himself to be unpredictable and unreliable in his performances this season while Hamels is having an outstanding season and is known for being consistent. That doesn't mean he will pitch well here of course, but it does mean it's likely. He hasn't fared well against the Orioles in four starts, so that could also be a factor. Gausman's story is the same against Texas. Gausman is the rotation's new "box of chocolates" as you really just never know what you'll get from him. Well, except for his apparently inability to pitch with a lead most nights.

Boston is currently leading Seattle 3-0 after four and Toronto beat Houston, so it looks like nothing will change in the East barring a collapse by the Sox. Detroit has won seven in a row and have closed to within three games of Cleveland who has lost two in a row. Even the Twins have won three straight. No change in the Wet thus far with both Houston and Texas losing tonight.

Anyone care to guess what our lineup will be tonight? I'm assuming the only LH hitter will be Davis (though I'd probably take a flier on Alvarez at DH with Trumbo at 1st at this point) with Pearce in LF and Reimold in RF.

Roch speculated Pearce, and Reimold and Trumbo DH.

I "get to" watch the game. My battery is dead, my mechanic is off on Wednesday so I'm stranded. Get to watch Hamels carve us up...

Need Kevin to turn in a career performance tonight. Despite his recent flops, I know he can do it....I saw him totally overmatch Detroit's lineup last year at OPACY.
