</b>

Gallardo upped his July ERA to 5.63 in his last start as he continues to be bad especially on the road. He has allowed 11 walks over the last three starts to go with 15 hits and 11 runs in only 18 IP. He has allowed a home run in three straight starts as well, but he has not allowed an earned run against the White Sox in two starts. Maybe there's some hope here?

Miguel Gonzalez

(2-5)

QS: 7

Gonzalez struggled with his new team until July rolled around and he put up a 2.50 ERA and did not allow more than three earned a single time all month nor did he fail to complete six innings. He also finished July with a 0.98 WHIP and only three home runs allowed. Home runs were a big weakness for Gonzalez while in Baltimore, but he seems to have gotten that sorted out in Chicago with only five home runs coming in the last 12 starts after giving up four in his first five starts, but it's nothing new to see pitchers leave Baltimore and get better the same year with their new team. His home numbers this season aren't pretty, but that is mostly due to allowing 15 runs in 8.2 IP over two starts at the end of June. Other than those two, he has pitched well at home especially in July. His other four home starts were all sub-4/6+, so the total home numbers are misleading. He has a solid BAA and has done pretty well for the White Sox which once again begs the question to why the Orioles released him in the first place. They just thought he was done when apparently he wasn't? Just another blunder to add to the list by the Orioles FO? Anyway, Gonzalez will make his first start against the Orioles here and may have a chip on his shoulder.

Miley allowed five runs in four innings and added injury to insult on top of it apparently being hit in the ankle with a comebacker (I didn't see it, so not sure of the "how") and also allowed eight hits which isn't good either, but no walks and five strikeouts are good things. I think this was a decent signing overall as we couldn't really have done any better than this and plus, he's a left handed starting pitcher who is better than Jimenez and Gallardo, but the lefty status is what makes it a decent trade for the Orioles. Gave up Miranda to do it (who will make the start against Boston tonight), but Miley is more helpful now. Still, the Orioles can't sweep and drop the potentially meaningful win which may be a factor if the Orioles manage to make the playoffs. Again, three home runs for the Orioles, but nobody on base. It looks like Mr. Kim is heating up again which is always a good thing. They will need him on this road trip. Toronto is leading Houston 2-0 behind J.A. Happ in the bottom of the fifth. If they win, they will be tied atop the division with the Orioles for first place yet again.

Miguel Gonzalez has seemingly returned to his old consistent self in Chicago after having a very strong July and is certainly pitching better than Gallardo has this year, but he has had success in two starts against the White Sox and Gonzalez has not faced the Orioles. He might have a bit of a reason to be a little more focused for this game, though.

Boston is really reeling and have fallen to three back which is hardly insurmountable, but the blew a four run lead to lose one game and were shutout last night until they got one run in the ninth. They have gone cold having lost seven of 10, but Toronto is still going strong hanging around at one back. Meanwhile, the White Sox snapped Detroit's winning streak today which should give them a lift heading into their series against us. Barring Boston's result against Seattle and Ariel Miranda tonight, the Tigers may be in sole possession of the second WC spot again. Seattle has pushed to within four themselves with Houston 2.5 back and struggling at the hands of the Jays. Houston is also hurt from losing McCullers to the DL with an elbow strain who is their best pitcher and will have to push through that. Joe Musgrove's start in his place may help to alleviate some of that adversity if he can keep that up.

I really don't understand with other peoples infatuation with draft picks.

In MLB the draft is pretty insignificant

Not like the NBA or NFL were its very important

If you have been hanging around here for three years and still don't get it I'm afraid you never will.

Ok,

Just look at the draft results for the last few years

Plus with trading and DFA's the draft isn't all that important in MLB

Just my opinion doesn't make it right

Puig was sent down to the OKC dodgers

Should we try to get him?

Roy started a thread on the topic. You can imagine the arguments pro and con; my summary of the opinion: this year no (don't see any benefit over our current outfield). Next year, maybe....if you are a Puig change of scenery fan.
