The Orioles were one out away from getting shut out for the second time in four games as the losing continues on the road having lost four of six as Bumgarner shows why he is one of the best in the league if not the best. Gausman walks six and strikes out nine while giving up two runs in only four innings. I think Denard Span lit a bit of a fire under this Giants team who have not won back to back games since July 30-31 against the Nationals. Over the last 10 games, the Giants have alternated W/L and unless they break the pattern, they will lose tomorrow afternoon.

The Orioles are just one of those teams that feasts on bad pitching, but can't touch any pitcher who makes quality pitches. A pitcher with a 5.50 ERA is just as capable of pitching well on any given day as a 3.00 pitcher is capable of pitching poorly any given day and sometimes, I feel like that gets lost around here. If a pitcher has a high ERA, he must pitch badly 100% of the time and is never capable of pitching well and if he gets good results against the Orioles, it must be the fault of the Orioles hitters since high ERA = never ever pitches well no matter what. The Orioles struggle badly against ANY pitcher who is able to locate and make quality pitches to the point that they almost never win in those situations. I think it's mostly due to being a one dimensional offense and having only one way to score runs. Unfortunately for the Orioles, it's easier to disarm that kind of offense than it is an offense who can hurt you several different ways. Anyway, Bumgarner is elite and pitched like it tonight. Keep the ball out of the middle of the plate and you beat the Orioles and that's really the bottom line. Matt Cain did not do that.

Again, all depends if Cueto can snap out of his slump here. He is pitching at home where he's at his best, but got hit real hard in two starts against the Orioles. Miley has good numbers against the Giants and in their park, but Cueto is better than what he has done lately. At least, he has been this season for the first three and a half months. Cueto will look to get back on track and give the Giants their first back to back wins since the end of July.

Toronto regains first place by half a game with their win over the Astros behind another strong start from Aaron Sanchez. For now, their six man rotation seems to be working well. Boston won their second in a row to pull to two games of Toronto for the division lead and 1.5 behind the Orioles. The Yankees have won four in a row and for a team that many including myself considered out of contention especially after dealing Miller and Chapman, they sure are doing a good job of staying in the race. They are 3.5 out of the WC still and 5.5 back in the division. They are now four games above .500 which makes the Rays the only ALE team below .500. Cleveland looks like they will win their third in a row and the Tigers shut out the Rangers to break their skid sitting 1.5 back of the WC. Houston falls to three back while Seattle edges out the A's by a run to remain two back.

Some folks don't want to hear that. They would like to play National League baseball in the AL East.
