All three of Gallardo's sub-4/6+ starts this season have come over the last four starts, so he has been pitching well lately, but Oakland and Chicago don't exactly have great offenses either. Gallardo allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk in five innings against Boston in April, but has been at his best at home along with the rest of the team. His overall numbers against Boston are not good to say the least.

E-Rod got off to a real rough start which certainly skews his away numbers, but he has bounced back in July (3.06) and August (2.55) though there's one bad one in there two starts ago. He has allowed only one homer in 17.2 August innings. He made two starts against the Orioles this season one being good and one being bad. Three of his five starts against the Orioles were good and two were bad, so no telling which guy shows up this time however he has been absolutely dominating at Camden Yards. He has been pitching well over the last six starts.

Although I still like the Miley signing (seriously, what else could the O's have gotten? It's better than Jimenez), he really wasn't good today at all and neither was Wilson in relief. Miley allowed six earned runs in 4.1 IP and being down 7-1 in the fifth inning, but the Giants crumble in the late innings and give the win away in the ninth with two outs in dramatic fashion to come out of the road series at 5-5. Boston won their make up game against Cleveland and sit a game back of Toronto and one back of the Orioles.

Both pitchers have been pitching well lately. Gallardo is at his best at home though his WHIP is too high and E-Rod is dominating at Camden Yards. This is a big game for both clubs here as the race atop the East has gotten real tight.

Who do the New York Yankees think they are? They just refuse to go away and three hit the Blue Jays in a 1-0 victory tonight to tighten things up atop the East and they are 4.5 out of the WC, but have won seven of 10. Rookie Chad Green threw six scoreless innings and struck out 11 Blue Jays in the contest. Not much else going on elsewhere as the ALE continues to hog both wild card spots. Detroit lost to KC to fall to 2.5 back and Seattle won their third in a row and have won nine of 10 sitting two back.

He used to have very colorful conversations with Palmer that were very entertaining and has a great voice, but I have to say that this season, he has almost become intolerable for me. He says a ball is hit the other way when it's pulled, he can't talk properly at times, he thinks a 93 MPH fastball is a slider, he says a pitch is outside when it's in the dirt, doesn't even know who is playing where on the field sometimes and thinks foul pop ups are fly balls to center field. His performance has really taken a hit this season and there's almost none of those color conversations between him and Palmer anymore. I am quickly tiring of Thorne and his apparent declining ability to do or say anything right anymore when it comes to play by play. It's like he's watching a different game. When it would happen occasionally, it was kind of charming and he made up for it with his personality. It has gone from charming to incompetent or just plain not interested enough in his job to pay attention to the game. Of course, he really might be drunk. Either way, it's gone too far.

Brothers, This time of year is when the cream rises to the top. You either got it or you don't. We'll find out if we have it or not.

Eh, you could have a good competent FP Santangelo or Jim Hunter. Thorne is the Hall of Fame Announcer. He is the Vin Scully of Baltimore. I like it when you stick to the facts in your write-ups. They are well researched.

Thorne's performance has taken a hit this season. He screws up way too much on run of the mill calls and routinely gets players mixed up and those are facts. I see no need to run to the game thread to point it out every

time, but I'm sure others have noticed too. This season, his performance has slipped. He gets more calls wrong per game this season than he has since he's been here. I've been a supporter of his since he's been here like

I said, but he has gone downhill this year and not just a little bit. Scully has been doing baseball for 67 years and started before Thorne was even two years old. There's really no comparison. Thorne has done much in his

broadcasting career, but he is no Vin Scully. Not even close.
