</b>

Gallardo completely wrecked his August ERA in his last start bumping it up to 5.68 after being slaughtered by the Yankees. Gallardo allowed five runs on five hits and five walks in 4.1 innings in his last start against Toronto which was also his first loss against them.

Aaron Sanchez

(12-2)

2.99 (1.16/.230)

132K / 46BB, 11HR

QS: 10

Sanchez's rough August prompted the Jays to give him an extended break by sending him to A ball though I doubt he even had to actually go there. He allowed 10 runs in 17 August innings prior to this move. Sanchez had the one bad start against the Orioles this season, but the last two were outstanding allowing three earned on 10 hits and four walks in 13 innings with no home runs allowed after giving up four in the other start. Sanchez will look to get back to his dominating ways after the much needed rest and hope he isn't rusty. He has been better on the road than he has been at home, but his numbers against the Orioles and at Camden Yards aren't good. His last two starts were superb though and one was at Camden Yards for six innings with one run on six hits and two walks allowed with six strikeouts.

Both Jimenez and Happ pitched well only this time, the Orioles got some pitches to hit out and didn't miss them to take the must win game. All runs were scored on home runs and there were actually guys on base for two of them which always helps. The gap is now three games for the division lead with Gallardo and Sanchez going in the rubber game.

Sanchez may be rusty after having 11 days off, but I'm sure the Jays have made sure that he has been having bullpen sessions and whatnot. If he's on, he's better than Gallardo for sure who is coming off the worst start of his career and has pretty much erased all the progress he had made over the last month or so. This game depends on whether Sanchez is on or not IMO.

Detroit and Houston both win to keep their positions in the race while Seattle loses yet another game in the late innings. This time, it was a walk off two run home run by Odor that on a pitch below the knees out to center field. I think this may have broken Seattle's back to be honest. They have lost so many games due to blown leads that it is bound to be demoralizing at some point. They were up 6-3 in that game, blew the lead in the seventh, then got it back in the eighth and led 7-6 going into the bottom of the ninth. Diaz was trying to get through his second inning of work and allowed a double to Beltre and then the walk off to Odor. I can't imagine them continuing to stand up to these late inning defeats, but maybe I underestimate them. This is precisely why Seattle is not doing better this season. They have everything they need to win except a reliable bullpen and it must be hard for M's fans to watch this happen. Even I have a soft spot for the M's because of Griffey. In the KC/NYY game, Soria had Gardner struck out looking in the 10th on a pitch that was completely inside the strike zone called a ball to load the bases on a walk with two outs. The next batter Ellsbury plated a run on an infield single to take a 5-4 lead in the top of the 10th. In the bottom half, KC had runners on second and third with no outs and couldn't score. See? The Orioles aren't the only victims of bad calls.

Wild Card Standings

*Boston +1.0

*Baltimore --

Detroit -1.0

Houston -2.0

KC Royals -3.0

NY Yankees -3.5

Seattle -4.0

Really wish I could be there tonight, but I have to be home tonight...wife has a company function thing and I got dog duty.

Good news is that I will get home early and fire up the grill. Tonight is a playoff game as far as I am concerned.

Did Demper just say Sanchez was the best pitcher in Toronto history?

He also said a few months ago that gausmann could be the best pitcher in the AL during the second half.

Roy, how do u get MASN in California? The pre and post games aren't shown on mlb.tv are they?
