Ubaldo Jimenez

(5-11)

6.46 (1.80/.299)

94K / 61BB, 13HR

QS: 4

</b>

Jimenez has turned in two good starts in a row, but when it comes to Jimenez, success is usually a pretty fragile thing. His numbers against the Rays are good so long as he's not pitching at Orange Juice Field which unfortunately, he is.

Matt Andriese

(6-6)

4.19 (1.20/.256)

86K / 22BB, 13HR

QS: 3

Last 4 starts (20.1 IP): (0-3) 9.31 (1.77), 8HR

Andriese seems to be much better suited for a relief role as he did very well there in June (3.47) and July (2.51). He had a 2.36 as a starter in May and was yanked out of the rotation in mid June despite not pitching all that poorly, but since his return in August, he really hasn't done well and neither have the Rays as they are 1-5 in August when Andriese pitches and he is 0-4. He also surrendered nine homers in August with eight coming in the last four starts.

Splits & Sits

190 vs. left: .230/.279/.347, 5HR

224 vs. right: .278/.308/.411, 8HR

Career vs. Baltimore (1 starts, 3 relief)

(0-2) 7.2 IP, 10H, 6ER, HR, 3BB

vs. Batter

Adam Jones 3/5, 2RBI

Chris Davis 1/4, S-HR

Manny Machado 1/4

Jonathan Schoop 1/4, 2B

J.J. Hardy 1/2, RBI

Hyun-Soo Kim 0/2, BB

Mark Trumbo 0/2, 2K

Everyone else 1/4, 3BB

The Orioles can't complete the sweep as Pineda continues to pitch well against the Orioles and Girardi was very good with the bullpen in this game to come away with the win. The Orioles had many chances to score, but no home runs so no win. The Orioles now head to Tampa for three against the Rays followed by an off day before playing Detroit and Boston on the road. The Rays nearly swept Toronto, so they aren't likely to be pushovers in their home park.

Both of these pitchers seem to have fragile successes especially as a starter for Andriese. Jimenez pitches well against the Rays generally, but poorly at Orange Juice Field while Andriese is the opposite.

Detroit pulls back even for the wild card and Toronto pulls back to three games in the division. Boston loses on an error (again) in the ninth inning after E-Rod nearly took a no hitter into the ninth, but allowed a hit with two outs in the eighth. Kimbrel gave up the walk off. Houston and New York gain a game while Seattle loses again as the Angels stay red hot.

Wild Card Standings

*Boston +2.0

*Baltimore --

*Detroit --

Houston -2.0

NY Yankees -3.5

KC Royals -4.0

Seattle -5.0
