Wade Miley

(8-12)

5.49 (1.42/.285)

114K / 46BB, 24HR

QS: 9

</b>

Miley finished August with a 7.14 ERA and started September by allowing four runs on five hits and four walks against the Yankees in five innings. Miley has never faced the Red Sox, so this should be interesting. He has been atrocious with RISP and not too great with the bases empty either. The Red Sox have a lot of right handed power in their lineup and Miley can't get them out. He has allowed 21 of his 24 home runs this season to right handed hitters.

Last 6 starts (42 IP): (6-0) 2.14 (0.93), 4HR

Price is pitching like an ace down the stretch going 6-0 over the last six starts with dominating numbers to go with it. One of them came against the Orioles where he allowed a run on four hits in six innings about three weeks ago. However, only two of those starts were against contending teams with the other being KC. He did have the bad start against the Orioles back in April when he was struggling to get going with his new team, but he allowed three runs in eight innings against the Orioles in June on five hits and 11 strikeouts in the loss. There are more players than not in this lineup that hit him well, but if Price is on, it's going to be a long night.

Chris Tillman looked about as good as could have been hoped for in this game which is big for the Orioles down the stretch and shut down a still demoralized Tigers team after the second inning of game two. It sucked the life right out of them and Maybin's misplay on the first play of the game just kind of set the tone. Tigers players didn't seem to have any energy at all including Verlander who seemed to just lose it with two outs in the second inning and never recovered his command. The crowd never got into it, either. Just a disappointing series for the Tigers and a huge series win for the Orioles who are now two games up on the Tigers in the wild card, but now three games against Boston coming up tomorrow who just took the series from the Blue Jays and now they are tied with the Orioles for the first wild card spot and second place in the division. The Orioles chances of playing in October get a little bit better with each win, but there's still a lot of games left for anything to happen starting with the next three at Fenway Park.

David Price against Wade Miley. Not much need to go further than that, is there?

Wild Card Standings

*Boston +2.0

*Toronto --

*Baltimore --

Detroit -2.0

NY Yankees -2.0

Houston -2.5

Seattle -3.5

KC Royals -4.0

He has lately. I think he's tired. If he had an extra day of rest Id be more excited.

He did have an extra day of rest. He last pitched on Wednesday, Sept. 7. This start is on Tuesday, Sept. 13. That's five days rest between starts instead of the usual four.

Other than baseball is a funny game (or have you not been paying attention the last few weeks?)

The Red Sox have been playing the underdog role (to the front-running Blue Jays) the last few weeks. Now the script is flipped; sometimes, players/teams don't play as well with the higher expectations.

The Orioles offense can erupt at anytime (especially in Fenway Park). With Miley on the mound, it may have to....excited to see how this plays out.

Go Os!!!

Yeah obviously the matchup does not look good. You hope for some sort of damage limiting 5 inning 5 run type of outing from Miley, and an offensive outburst from the O's and an 8-6 win.

I will say that if we are within 2 runs when this is handed over to the bullpens, we have a shot. Boston's late inning pen has not been good this year.

I predict the offense will carry us this game and it won't really matter how bad Miley is. The pen will be pitching at least half this game for the O's, and maybe about the same for the Red Sox.

Winning pitcher: Mychal Givens.

Also, I have a good feeling about Hardy and Wieters being able to contribute tonight. If there's one "Ace" starter that doesn't scare me, it's David Price. We have beaten him before. He's very mortal.

I'm listening to the Red Sox pre game as for some reason the Orioles pre game isn't streaming on the mlb app.

They are talking about how yesterday's win was their biggest of the year as it gave them a two game lead versus being tied. Kind of like the Orioles win in terms of the wild card .
