5.44 (1.60/.279)

</b>

Gallardo has been pretty bad all season long, but he has done a bit better than that at home and does pitch well against the Rays. His last start was against the Rays in Tampa and allowed one earned on five hits and a walk. He finished August with a 5.46 ERA.

Snell has been inconsistent in his rookie season, but his ERA has remained in the low to mid 3's or lower all season. He had a 4.82 in August and a 4.15 so far in September, so he has struggled a little bit more lately. He has, of course, never faced the Orioles.

What a game this was. Gausman and Porcello were both sensational keeping the opposing offenses completely off balance for most of the game. Gausman was pumped and threw, IMO, his best game of the year all things considered. Porcello got loads of popups and groundouts all game as well. This one certainly had a playoff atmosphere. As it always is in any other game, it was about the pitchers and both were absolutely in top form. Only one mistake and it was the game and they just have no chance when the new Mr. Game Over comes in the game. Best game either team has played all season, but only one could win. Now, it's back home to face the Rays with their new hitting coach. The Orioles have a real chance to secure themselves in a postseason spot in these next four games, then four more against Boston.

Snell is largely an unknown here, but I think I'd rather have Gallardo just because he's a veteran and Snell being more likely to not be able to handle the pressure and energy of a team fighting for their playoff life. Gallardo also pitches well at home and against the Rays. The Rays fired their hitting coach on September 6th. Since then, the Rays have scored four or more runs in six of the last eight games. It's the pitching that has been the let down both evidenced by the numbers over the last seven games as of writing this.
