Jimenez has really turned it on over the last four starts chich has been refreshing for sure. The Orioles really needed him to step up. I certainly didn't think this would happen, but it's good to see him going well again. I still view success as being fragile when it comes to Jimenez, but let's see how long it lasts. He pitches well against the Rays, but awful at home.

QS: 14

Last 4 starts (25.1 IP): (1-2) 3.20 (0.95), 3HR, 31K / 6BB

After having a rough first three months to the season, Archer has been pitching much more like himself over the last 10 weeks with a 3.38 in July, a 3.03 in August and 3.38 so far in September. He has allowed three runs or less in nine of the last 10 starts. His last four have been against the Yankees, Blue Jays, Astros and Red Sox and he has been very strong in those games; two at home and two on the road. Archer allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk in 7.1 innings against the Orioles in July.

Gallardo was his usual self in this one allowing a ton of runs and couldn't even get through the fourth inning. Snell started out shaky allowing four in the first because he forgot to use all of his pitches, but once reminded to do so, was extremely good until the fifth inning when he lost it again probably from fatigue. Snell has a bright future. He is just the kind of young arms/players I would target in potential big trades. The Rays are playing with life they have not shown all season long right now. Can't praise Kiermaier enough in the outfield. He did miss that one in the first inning, but I can't believe he ran down that Machado drive in the gap. It's unreal how good he is in center field. The Orioles better pick it up because the Rays seem like they have some new found confidence now offensively.

The Orioles made it interesting in the ninth, but for the upteenth time tonight, could not score a run with a guy on third base and less than two outs. Colume also looks like a really nice pitcher for the Rays. He didn't lose his poise and kept pounding the strike zone and that is great to see in a young pitcher. Game two against Archer tomorrow with Jimenez on the hill. The Rays have won three in a row and four of five and are playing really good baseball right now.

Tough one here. I think Archer is the better pitcher easily and though he has been pitching like an ace over the last 10 weeks, he has struggled against the Orioles for his career especially at Camden Yards. Jimenez pitches well against the Rays, but has been awful at home this season. Toss up, I'd say.

It's hard to update these for the day until Toronto plays their game against the Angels. I shall do so later.

I didn't know until just this very moment that the Red Sox scored five in the bottom of the ninth to walk the Yankees off last night. While I am delighted to learn that the Yankees lost in such demoralizing fashion, it is loathsome that the Red Sox pulled out a big game like this after we shut them down to take the previous series. The Yankees really screwed us. All day I've been thinking that we were still only a game back. I'm so angry.

I did a triple take when I was looking at the scores last night, then put my reading glasses on to make sure.

Last night aside, it would be amusing if the Yankees' late inning bullpen costs them a playoff berth.
