Jimenez has been much better over the last five starts, but really has issues in the first inning. He allowed four runs on seven hits in seven innings in the last start against the Rays. The biggest part of his recent success is the significant decline in his walk rate with only six walks over the last six starts. His numbers against Boston are pretty terrible as are his home numbers this season. The three road starts he made over this five game stretch were better than the two home starts. He allowed seven runs on 12 hits (3HR) in 13.2 home innings over that span with those games being against Toronto and the Rays.

83K / 51BB, 21HR

QS: 6

Last 5 starts (28 IP): (3-0) 3.54 (1.36), 3HR

Buchholz has done well over the last five starts, but one of them was real bad against Toronto two starts ago where he allowed six runs on four hits and four walks in three innings. In the other four, he has gone at least six innings with no more than two runs allowed. He is fighting to get back into Boston's rotation not only now but next season and seems to be making a case for himself lately. Buchholz has two appearances against the Orioles this season. One, a start back in April, was bad allowing five runs on five hits and three walks in five innings. In the other, a relief appearance in June, he allowed only two hits in three innings with four strikeouts. He has three career complete game shutouts against the Orioles.

Gausman wasn't all that sharp in this one allowing a homer to Bradley Jr and three run blast to Ortiz in the seventh inning. Buck is such a genius leaving Gausman in there I tell you what. He has made so many mistakes and questionable decisions this month that has cost the team games. Rodriguez once again carried a no hitter into the middle innings which was broken up by Mancini's solo shot and is really no surprise. Mancini is the only unknown in the lineup, but I'm sure some will overreact and crown Mancini a successful 2017 starter based on that alone. The Red Sox have now won six in a row and are playing like a team who believes they can win a World Series and they may be right. The Orioles have lost four of six and are playing like a team that doesn't deserve to be in the postseason since they barely showed up against the Rays and have yet to show up against Boston here. They played so well at Fenway and inexplicably, they revert back to the .500 team that they've been for most of the season for no apparent reason in the next six games.

Well, it seems these two have some things in common. They are both trying to prove that they are good enough to be starting pitchers and enter back into the rotation and both are being given that opportunity and making the best of these opportunities. Both guys don't do all that well at Camden Yards, but Buchholz pitches a lot better against the Orioles than Jimenez does against Boston.

God I miss that BBQ.

I actually seriously considered heading up there for tonight but just couldn't get away in time :( Now I'm kicking myself for missing that Boogs

I saw Boog last night. Ken Singleton and his wife were doing a book signing at the O's store on Eutaw Street. Boog and Al Bumbry came by to see Kenny. They all looked real good. I was surprised at how tall Singleton us, and how short Bumbry is.

Boog does look terrific. He's aged pretty well for such a big guy. I've tried to drop by there to see if he's working every trip up to Baltimore.
