</b>

Miley left his last start after four innings with cramps in his upper back and should be able to make this start for the Orioles against his former team. He allowed only one hit and a walk in four innings before having to leave the game. He still has an 8.71 ERA in September, though. The three guys in their lineup that have seen him have done well against him in limited ABs. However, he has never faced the Diamondbacks.

Robbie Ray

(8-13)

4.66 (1.43/.264)

QS: 9

Ray has been pretty average all season long. His best month was August where he put up a 2.70 ERA, but all other months were in the mid to upper fours. He is currently having his worst month of the season to end the year with a 7.29 ERA in four September starts. He has allowed a home run in three straight starts, but one thing about Ray he is gets a lot of strikeouts with 210 in 166 innings this season. In 2015, Ray threw 127.2 innings in 23 starts and ended up with a 3.52 (1.33/.255) which is a pretty solid line. The WHIP is high, but still solid overall numbers. For whatever reason, Ray has taken a step back this season and has underperformed expectations just as Miller has though his was due to a freak finger injury.

vs. Batter

Mark Trumbo 2/3, 2B

Drew Stubbs 0/2, K

Well, Gallardo gave up a run in the first and a run in the second, but that was it over six innings. Unfortunately for him, the offense couldn't get anything done against Shelby Miller who threw six scoreless innings who really did pitch well despite the extremely disappointing season to this point. The Orioles got a solo homer off the D'Backs bullpen in the eighth and another in the ninth to tie it and almost got the game winner if not for some pretty awful managing by Buck yet again, but Trumbo bails him out in the 12th inning with the third solo home run of the night for the Orioles to beat the D'Backs in game one by the skin of their teeth. Hopefully, this carries over, but the Orioles didn't play all that great of a game overall. Three solo shots and took 12 innings to do it, but they absolutely needed to win this game to stay in it and we'll take it. Arizona's bullpen just isn't good enough to hang in with a homer happy team like the Orioles in extra innings.

I don't have a lot of confidence in Miley even after his start against the Rays and we won't really know if that injury will affect him here or not. Ray has struggled himself, but he does get a ton of strikeouts and he will be facing a team that loves to strikeout.
