Kevin Gausman

(8-11)

</b>

Gausman allowed five runs on 10 hits and a walk in 6.1 innings against Boston in his last start and came away with an intercostal injury which he is going to try to pitch through. Brian Matusz had this injury when he was here and it took quite a long time to recover from it, so hoepfully, Gausman isn't that bad. He doesn't pitch well against Toronto especially in Toronto where he allowed six runs on six hits (3HR) and three walks in only three innings back in July. The big question is is he healthy? We can be reasonably sure Tillman isn't and now we'll have to see if Gausman is as well.

Aaron Sanchez

(13-2)

3.12 (1.18/.228)

145K / 58BB, 14HR

QS: 20

Sanchez's numbers against the Orioles overall are a bit high, but over his last three starts against the Orioles, his line is (2-0) 1.42 (1.16) with ZERO home runs allowed. Sanchez has two pretty good starts and one bad one this month and the Jays have lost all three games he has started in September. He is a force and is invalidating his current career line against the Orioles one start at a time.

Bundy was good first time through the order, but ran into a lot of trouble the second time through and had to dance out of danger in both the fourth and fifth innings which he barely made it through. Shipley was much better than I expected him to be with a lot of movement on his pitches and having the best command of just about anyone Arizona has put out there the whole series. He might have a good future ahead of him over there in Arizona.

While it is good that the Orioles swept the D'Backs (and they should have), they were held to less than four runs by the worst pitching staff in baseball in two of the three games and barely got out with two of those wins by only one run. This does not give me much confidence going forward against Toronto and New York. Toronto has perhaps the best pitching staff in the AL and I didn't see much in the Arizona series to make me think this team has snapped out of anything offensively. The Orioles have dropped four of six to Toronto in the second half and lost both series.

Sanchez has been a beast this season and has dominated the Orioles over his last three starts against them while Gausman has not done well against the Blue Jays and pitched poorly in his last start in Toronto. There's also the question of whether or not Gausman will be affected by his intercostal injury.

The Tigers are scoring runs, but their pitching is outscoring the offense. Seattle blew a ninth inning lead, but came away with the win in the 11th on a game winning solo home run from Cano with two outs and Nick Vincent was able to hold off the Houston rally to get the huge win. Toronto allowed five runs in the ninth inning to lose to the Yankees who avoid the sweep. It seemed Osuna was being given the night off so he would be fresh for the Baltimore series and the other guys couldn't get it done with the one run lead.

Wild Card Standings

*Toronto +1.0

*Baltimore --

Seattle -2.0

Detroit -2.0

Houston -3.5
