Miley has been very good over his last two starts, but this might be tougher than the Rays or D'Backs. He has not pitched well against the Yankees and allowed four runs on five hits and four walks in five innings four starts ago.

Gallardo pitched very well here for the Orioles against a Yankees team that I expected to have more energy for this game, but maybe it was the weather which was awful. Pineda left a few too many pitches over the middle of the plate and Pazos made a big mistake to Schoop as well. Yankees pitching settled down after that, but the offense did not make an appearance against Gallardo who was locating well. With Toronto's loss, Detroit and Seattle are now both within striking distance tomorrow of the second wild card. The Orioles must win another game.

Miley is hot and Severino has been superb out of the bullpen, but not so great out of the rotation this season. He has pitched well against the Orioles in four appearances.

It's been said elsewhere but it bears repeating: a win today will guarantee the O's at least a play-in game, but not (yet) a wild card berth.

For that, we'll have to wait until the evening games, and possibly even tomorrow.

Personally, I'm still nervous: I think there's a really good chance both Detroit and Seattle win out, and as much as I'd like to think Miley can duplicate his last performance, I'm worried he'll revert back to his prior Oriole ways.

Top of my wish list today: an O's win, of course; but short of that, Boston beating the Jays would be a huge boost for us.

I agree with all that, but I think (and certainly hope) that if Miley is having problems they won't last long because he won't last long. We've got a bunch of RHed pitchers who are rested, ready and capable of getting outs if Miley can't. (I've always been taken with the idea, in a big game, of having the starter throw one or two innings and then switching to the "real" starter, who throws from the other side.)
