I'll throw the obvious idea out there before everyone else does;

Gallardo for Markakis.

Gallardo is owed 11 million in 2017 with a 2 million buyout for 2018. So 13 million left.

Markakis is owed 11 million in 2017 and 2018. So 22 million left.

DD has to swallow his pride and do exactly what he didn't want to do. Pay Nick Markakis 11 million in his age 33-34 seasons. Atlanta gets to free up some cash to make a FA signing going into their new ballpark. We get everyone's 2nd favorite former Oriole back, behind Krod, of course.

I dont think you are being accurate.

DD didn't have a trouble with the amount per year, it was the extra 4th year, he did not want to go with Nick's current age at the time.

I think Ubaldo is most likely to be moved due to his glimpse of success at the end of the season.

I'd look at the Marlins.

It would have to be to get out from under the last year of the Nick deal.

They haven't tried to ship him off yet.

They seem pretty satisfied with the contract.

I could see Miley having some success. He had a career high HR/9 rate last year, which should drop. He seems to have decent stuff. I can see a low 4s ERA next year.

I think if him and McGreggor work on his stuff this offseason, we could see an improvement

This is the answer to trying to move any of the three aforementioned contracts. Would any team accept the contracts as is straight up for a usable player??? This is extremely doubtful and still receive a usable player.

Here's some names that might work for Ubaldo/Miley/Gallardo bad contract swap;

Melvin Upton OF 16.5 million

Melky Cabrera OF 15

Curtis Granderson OF 15

Miguel Montero C 14 million

Allen Craig RF 11 million (Forgot he existed, and he's with BOS)

Montero for Gallardo makes some sense. Salaries for next year are pretty much even. We need a stop gap C for a year. Gallardo most likely would be better in the NL Central.

That being said the Braves seem happy with Nick.
