Thread Ratings and Reputation
Just a little guidance on how to use these functions on the new board:
Thread Ratings:
Please take the time to rate threads if you think they warrant people taking a look at them or if they should avoid a dumb thread. Your ratings can help people decide where to spend their time looking, especially with the many threads posted around here. A good debate, with good opinions on both side should probably rate a 5-star while a "Let's trade Hairston for Josh Beckett" deserves 1-star.
Reputation:
Give people credit for thought out and well-written replies or ideas by giving them good points towards their reputation. At the same time, if someone is a trouble maker, continually doesn't add anything towards the conversation, breaks board rules, or acts immaturely, certainly deserves negative credit. Also, take the time to give a quick comment as to why you gave or took away the rep points. The more posts you have and the better reputation you recieve, the more rep points you take or give. NOTE: Do not give a guy neg rep points just because you disagree with his point of view.
Trust us, we look at everyone's reputation, especially if your little pip turns red. Red pips get our attention quick and if you have under 100 posts, you can almost assuredly bet they will be gone soon.
Have fun with this but use these tools to improve the board and help the moderators key on great/terrible threads and great/terrible posters.
Thanks and enjoy the board.

So when will the other Plus members be allowed to have customized titles like Yuds instead of the generic "Plus Member Since XX/XX"?

That was SB's doing. Not sure why, but he set Yud's handle different. Everyone should be set at plus member or whatever.

Tony-
How many "reputation points" do you start with?

Wedge raised an issue in a thread back on the O's board.

What IS one to do when given negative rep points that are clearly undeserved? In this scenario, Wedge stated an inarguable fact and got pounded for it.

Thanks dude. I guess I should have brought it up here, too.
I also got a negative rep point by a guy with 3 posts for my joke about Sammy being flown up before the deal was finished "sorry...wanna go to the Aquarium?" I mean, I understand neg points for being abusive, or simply having a very bad bad opinon and forcing it, etc. But I got smacked for stating fact and making a joke.

I'm new here, so please forgive my ignorance. I have a question about the reputation points.
When I click my user CP, it says that I have 2 rep points. One comment has a green dot beside it, while the other has a red dot. So does red mean bad and green mean good?
I ask because the post that was given a red was a review I gave of the game I went to on Sunday, which I didn't think I said anything bad. I noticed it was stated that those with under 100 posts that get red will be watched closely. The last thing I want to do is to make anyone mad and get myself in trouble. Any suggestions from the vets to this newbie? Thanks guys

In your User CP, the "red dot" (and comment?) you see denotes that someone gave you negative rep. The "green dot" (and comment?) denotes that someone gave you positive rep. If you're a Plus member, you can see who gave you rep. If you're not Plus, you can't. (I typically include my name when leaving a comment for non-Plus people, but not everyone does.)
I wouldn't sweat it. Your post above shows that you're in the green (and that you're "a rookie fresh out of training camp"). So overall, you are OK. The folks that are "watched closely" are those with poor (red) reputation overall (not just one specific neg rep).

It's strange. Whenever I write a post that I feel is really good, it never gets rep. But I seem to get rep for every post I would never expect to get rep for.

New reputation system
I've modified the user reputation system to allow going past the old 'pip' limit. In a nutshell, here's how rep works:
1 dark green pip - 0-100
2 dark green pips - 101-200
3 dark green pips - 201-300
4 dark green pips - 301-400
5 dark green pips - 401-500
1 bright green pip - 501-650
2 bright green pips - 651-800
3 bright green pips - 801-950
4 bright green pips - 951-1100
5 bright green pips - 1101-1250
6 bright green pips - 1251-1400
1 orange pip - 1401-1600
2 orange pips - 1601-1800
3 orange pips - 1801-2000
4 orange pips - 2001-2200
5 orange pips - 2201-2400
6 orange pips - 2401-2600
Once you've reached the end of the pip line, you will lap the system and get a big Super Pip (a star for now). You'll then start to collect pips again on the same scale. Super Pips are the ultimate status symbol in the rep system!
(I'll move this to the 'Help' section once everyone has had a chance to view it.)
EDIT: Apparently the Oriole Bird I picked for the Super Pip is not allowed. We'll default the star for now and solicit ideas for something better.Last edited by McLovin; 03-20-2008 at 07:51 AM.

So, any ideas for the 'super pip'? Apparently it can't be an Orioles trademarked image - so birds, etc. are out. It just has to look good at about 25x25 pixels.
