Otis Redding. This archival release. Only made it through the London show (which is supposed to be the lesser concert) and the version of Try a Little Tenderness may just be the greatest thing I've ever heard. Ever start tearing up from a piece of music? Yeah, that. They just keep calling him back onstage, and the music builds and builds, and at some point Sam and Dave start singing too...wow.

    Motown? Feh.

Give me Muscle Shoals anyday! Otis, Aretha, Wilson Pickett, Sam and Dave, even the Stones recorded there.

This release has some of the same tracks as above. Far and away the best version of "Respect" ever recorded.

I believe they're actually different shows. Live in Europe is a fine record, no doubt.

Oh, and I think I need the Walk Hard soundtrack.

With or without irony? Not a judgement, btw; just curious. There's certain acts one can listen to with or without. T Rex is my personal favorite for that one.

Drek, I searched for the Detroit Cobras version and couldn't find it, but did find this vintage Flirtations video
In the truest pre-MTV MTV vein.

Without. It was a total commercial failure since maybe half the album is musique concrète sound collages. Plus it's a concept album about the Cold War which seems like an odd concept for 1983. Someone on AMG compared it to Kid A.

Van Morrison's Them band released their version on the 1966 album, Them Again. Greil Marcus states in a 1969 review: "Only on Dylan's 'It's All Over Now, Baby Blue' does Van truly shatter all the limits on his special powers...Played very fast, Van's voice virtually fighting for control over the band, 'Baby Blue' emerges as music that is both dramatic and terrifying."
